Snead, proved he was the man
who could do it.

Andy Kerr Quits Coach
Post At East College
Lebanon, Pa., Feb. 13 (U.R)
Andy Kerr, "inventor" of grid
iron razzle - dazzle and most
famed football coaches of all
times, resigned as head coach at
little Lebanon Valley college to
day, ending a glorious career
that spanned 36 years.
The 71-year-old "dean of east
ern college coaches" said he def
initely would not accept a new
coaching position again. Howev
er, he said he would remain as
coach of the East team in the an
nual East-West Shrine charity
game, a position he has held for
23 years.
Trapshoot Feature
Of Oregon Elks Meet
A five-club trapshoot at the
Medford Gun club Saturday was
a feature of the Oregon Elks
mid-winter meeting during the
week end. Medford gunners
came out on top with a 704
count.
Oreeon City's five-man team
was second with 685. Other
scores were Klamath Falls 680.
Lebanon 652 and Grants Pass
638. Participants shot 100 times
from 16 yards plus a 50 handi
cap. Main sessions of the Elks con
clave were at Ashland.

No. 18.
As the hailstones scattered
most of the gallery of 8,000,
Snear tried to ram home a 40
foot putt for the possible 61, but
"it was like trying to putt in
a gravel bed," he said, and he
missed it and the next one from
two feet out.
Bests PGA Mark
The three-putted green still
gave him a 126 for the final 36
holes, besting by three strokes
a PGA mark set on the same
6.400-yard course in 1944 by
Sam Byrd.
While he missed tying the tour
nament record of 264, Snear's
19-under-par round enabled him
to become the second man in the
tourney's 23-year history to win
the event twice. Wild Bill Mel
horn was the other, back in 1928
and 1929.
Demaret, in finishing second,
marked the third time in four
years he has been the runner-up
here.
Ducks Unlimited
Appeal Renewed
A new appeal for funds to
help Ducks Unlimited in its bat
tle to make the "grand old sport
of water fowling" more of a
reality in Oregon and through
out the nation, was received to
day from Alfred H. Schmidt,
Oregon state chairman, Port
land. Schmidt said that more than
$4,400 has been contributed so
far by Oregon people with $5,
000 as the goal asked.
He said anyone wishing to
contribute more money or has
not done so as yet may send his
check to Ducks Unlimited. Inc.,
