Lone Pine Unit Hears
Program On Seasoning

was the project for the Janu
ary meeting of the Lone Pine
Extension unit held recently at
the home of Mrs. Leonard Leh
man. Mrs. Howard Gault led the
discussion on herbs. She classi
fied the three groups as those
strong enough for accent, pun
gent, and mild herbs for blending.
I Mrs. E. H. Greb and Mrs.
Gault prepared a luncheon for
I the unit using a variety of herbs.
Mrs. K. w. Jordan, secretary,
read a letter from Miss Eula
Wintermote concerning research
being made on better work
dresses for the housewife.
Mrs. C. C. Hoover reported on
the triennial conference of the
ACWW to be held later this year
in Denmark. The group voted to
donate 10 cents per member to
help finance a delegate from
Oregon. The unit was awarded
the gold seal for achieving stan
dard unit requirements.
Next meeting of the unit will
be at the home of Mrs. Ivan Gay,
February 16 at 10:15 a.m. Mrs.
Jim Cech and Mrs. Tom Merit
will Hive a demonstration on the
covering of lampshades. Anyone,
who did not attend ine lasi meet
ing but will attend the February
meeting Is asked to call Mrs.
Guy Cox, 2-4198 regarding the
menu for the corning meeting.

Tuesday night at the Odd Fellows hall in Medford for Medford
IOOF lodge and Olive Rebekah lodge, The ceremonies were con
ducted by W. H. Dyer, deputy grand master of the Odd Fellows,
t,nd Mrs. Dollie Love, deputy president of Olive Rebekah lodge,
with their installing team. Hazen L T took office as noble grand
of the IOOF, and Mrs. Harry Bryant as noble grand of Olive Rebe
kah lodge.

of the school year. Miss Janice
Walker, daughter of Mrs. Gil

the YMCA for dessert and a so
cial afternoon. Mrs. A. E. Stout,
newly elected president of the
club, presided at the business
meeting which followed the
dessert.

and S. S. McLaren. Mrs. J. I.

Set for Wednesday
Second in a series of recitals
is planned by Mrs. Eve Prentice
for Wednesday, February 1. at
her studio, 517 Newtown avenue.
Twenty accordion pupils will be
presented during the evening.
The recital is set for 7:30 rj. m.
and friends and relatives of the
pupils particinatinff are invited
to attend.

Explained By Nurse
For Eagle Point PI A
Eagle Point Services of the
Jackson County Health depart
ment were explained by Miss
Elizabeth McGalliard, county
health nurse, at the Eagle Point
Parent-Teacher association meet
ing Tuesday. Some of the high
lights of the service explained
by Miss McGalliard included
orthopetic service twice a year
for children from birth to 21
years of age; child guidance clin
ic once each month for all who
may request it; and immuniza
tions all day Wednesdays and
Friday afternoons.
The speaker explained the
Sparrow Memorial Foundation;
and stated it is partly supported j
by donations sent to the founda
tion in place of flowers for;
funerals. i
Mrs. Glenn Clymer reported
on the. county council for parents
and teachers in Central Point. .
Hugh Eskridge, grade school
principal reported a profit of
$100 from the recent National
assemblies program for the
March of Dimes drive. A min
strel show will be given by the
grade school February 3 at
8 p.m.
After the meeting refresh
ments were served and a food
sale was held in the home econ
omics room of the school. The
next meeting of the association
will be a silver tea on Founders'
day February 28 at 3 p.m.

"Human Origins" was the
topic discussed by Delphian so
ciety members at their meeting
Tuesday in the Girls' Commun
ity club.
Those taking part In the dis
cussibn were Mrs. Richard Gray.
Mrs. T. J. Halfhill. Mrs. C. T.
Bartholomew, Mrs. I. E. Staples
and Mrs J. E. Schroeder. Begin
ning with the dawn of history
about 500,000 years ago when
there was scant evidence of
man's presence, the subject pro
ceeded to the more conclusive
findings of the environment dur
ing the various eras in differ
ent parts of the world. The tools
man used, the diverse animals,
their foods and ways of life were
the objectives In the study of
human origins.
