Organize Medford Chapter
Future Teachers Of America
The first Future Teachers of America club to be organized in
Medford high school was formally installed Thursday evening,
January 26 by the Southern Oregon college chapter of FTA in
room six of the mgr. school, it is known as the una B. inch chapter.
Officers are George Goodman, president; Nancy Adams, vice-
president; Diane High, secretary; Joan surke, treasurer; Nina
Grantham, historian; Patricia Benton, librarian; Elayne Leach, par
liamentarian; Mrs. M. Butler, sponsor, and Mr. MacDonald, co-

were present for the installation
and Miss Rosemarv Weaver, vice-
president of the club told of its
activities.
Elliott Becken, assistant sup
erintendent of Medford schools,
gave suggestions to the newly or
aanized groun.
Membership in FTA is open
to all high school students inter
ested in the teaching profession
and the new club membership is
made up of 12 senior members
and nine initiates. Purpose of the
club is to help future teachers
learn facts about, and opportun
ities in, teaching in their local
ity, state and nation; cultivate
character qualities essential in
being good teachers; study lives
of great teachers and develop stu

The organization's formal
name is the Una B. Inch Club
of Future Teachers of America.
The group was required to
choose the name of a local or
widely known educator for their
Huh and because of Mrs. Inch's
outstanding work as a teacher in
Jackson county the memDers se
lected her name. Mrs. Inch has
served as county elementary
school supervisor since 1932, is a
past president of the Oregon Ed
ucation association ana nas peen
an educator for many years.
Charter members of the club
served refreshments during the
social hour which followed the
installation ceremonies.

Entertained Wednesday
Lively Oaks club members en
joyed a social evening Wednes
day at the home of Mrs. Larry
Youmans. A number of the
guests played canasta and others
sewed. Mrs. Robert Davis won
the traveling prize.
Others present were Mrs.
Randy Hugdahl, Miss Beverly
Mee, Mrs. Delbert Ross, Mrs
Homer Lamb, Mrs. Harvey Row-
den, Mrs. John Ramos and Mrs
M. McCary. Refreshments were
served at the close of the evening.

County Committee
Announces Date Of
Extension Festival
May 5 was set as the date of
the annual spring festival of
Jackson county extension units
at the last meeting of the county
extension committee, and first
plans for this yearly large event
were made.
It was announced that the 60th
anniversary of establishment of
courses in home economics at
Oregon State college will be cele
brated March 10 and 11 in Cor
vallis, and about 200 women are
to attend.
Reports were made on the
better dress workshops, and it
was said that all are well under
way. The dresses being made in
this advanced sewing project are
all of light weight woolen mate
rial and are being made by
members who made cotton
dresses last spring.
All units of the county are now
interested in raising funds to
send a delegate to Denmark the
last week in September of this
year to represent Oregon at the
triennial conference of Associ
ated Country Women of the
World.

Dance Speaker's Topic
For Sorority Meeting
"The Dance" was the cultural
program subject at a meeting
of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority
Thursday evening it the home
of Mrs. Larry Carson. A short
history of dancing was given
by Mrs. William Hartman who
introduced Miss Colleen Hope,
local dance instructor, the guest
speaker. Miss Hope discussed
the ballet and Miss Patsy White,
a student of Miss Hope, demon
strated various ballet positions
and danced parts from "The
Nutcracker Suite."
Hostesses for the evening were
Miss Jeaft Poland and Mrs. Lar
ry Carson.
During the business meeting

of Miss Eva Marie Clemmer and
Merle La Roy Eldridge was an
event of January 11. The bride is
the daughter of Mr, and Mrs.
W. A. Clemmer, Jacksonville and
the bridegroom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. R. Eldridge, Apple
gate. The marriage ceremony
was performed by Justice of the
Peace W. P. Tucker in the Jack
son county courthouse at 5
o'clock in the afternoon and was
attended by members of the
family and a few friends.
Miss Viola Ayres of Applegate
attended the bride and Dean
Lewis, Applegate acted as best
man.
The bride wore for her mar
riage a grey and black suit with
black accessories and her corsage
was of gardenias. Miss Ayres
wore an aqua marine blue dress
with black accessories.
Following the ceremony a
small reception was held at the
bride's home, where the tradi
tional wedding cake was cut by
the bride and bridegroom and
served with refreshments.
The bride is a graduate of the
Jacksonville high school and the
Medford Beauty school. The
bridegroom was graduated from
Downey high school, Downey,
Cal., and served three years in
the army air forces in this coun
try and in Japan.

for the College Women's club of
Rogue River Valley luncheon in
the Pioneer room of the Jackson
hotel January 21.
Mrs. Ben Schmidt introduced
the guest speaker, Hal Bishop,
local artist, who spoke on "Art
in the Home" and "History of
Art." Hearing of Mr. Bishop's
extensive research preparatory
to painting the murals on dis
play about the room gave the
audience a new appreciation of
the work.
Mrs. E. A. Evanson introduced
the musicians, Miss Sue Murphv,
soloist, and Mrs. C. R. Adamsoh,
accompanist.

meeting and Misj Annette Gray
