the way lor the world to think
alike. Is to look alike, viz: un
dress. This is not a very bright
idea, and, besides, people just
won't do it. The secretary of
agriculture predicts food produc
tion will Increase, and "hunger
banished from the earth." If both
ideas work, America will be the
fattest, nakedest country of them
all.
The Road to Peace
Certainly no one would deny appeasement is
wrong in theory, for it is the sacrifice of principle to
expediency.
And the recent war surely demonstrated it wrong
in practice, for few things are clearer now than that
had Hitler NOT been appeased, World War II would
probably never have occurred.
And yet there are people, many of them, who
not only approve continued appeasement of Russia,
but accuse those who oppose such a policy of being
Fascist and war-mongers.
Nothing could be further from the truth. In
fact, appeasement is the road to war; truth telling and
firmness, the only road to peace.
THE report of Senator Vandenberg to the U. S.
Senate, following his return from the recent
meeting of the UNO in London, emphasizes the truth
of these statements.
We quote :
"It would be entirely futile to blink the fact that two
great rival Ideologies democracy in the West and communism
in the East, find themselves face to face with the desperate
need for mutual understanding in finding common ground
upon which to strive for peace. It is my belief Russia
and the United States can live In reasonable harmony if the
United States speaks as plainly upon all occasions as Russia
does if we abandon the miserable fiction, often encouraged
by our 'fellow-travelers' that we somehow Jeopardize the peace
if our candor is as firm as Russia's always is, and if we as
sume a moral leadership which we have too frequently al
lowed to lapse. The situation cans tor pai.c.. ..B.
will but not for vacillation. We need but one rule: What is
right, where is Justice? Then let America take her stand.
Along with that there is a line beyond which compromise can
not go. But how can we expect our alien '"ends to know
where that line is. unless we re-establish the habit of saying
only what we mean, and meaning everything we say.

all the territory now she can successfully develop, and
the first requirement in such development, is peace.
But she does want security. A.nd judging the
future by the past, she honestly believes, no doubt,
the only way to have security, is to have a huge "cor
don sanitaire" along her tremendous borders from
the North Cape to Vladivostok, from the Atlantic to
the Pacific, a "cordon sanitaire" under her control,

And that in general terms, is the basis of her
present foreign policy.
It is, we believe, an unfortunate policy, and poten
tially a dangerous one; but it does not necessitate, as

gent young women with a good
sense of humor. These are the
characteristics, which do much to
make a marriage; a success. Keep

Now I have a reader named;
Prudence. But so far none I
named Abigail. . . Diama scribe
refers to "Oklahoma" as "the1

show history." No doubt this
show will rate that description
some day. But it doesn't now.
It has yet to earn as much as
that delightful musical comedy
"Rose Marie". . . Am asked
when the song "I'd Leave My
Happy Home For You was in
troduced and by whom. That's
a real old timer. A Gay Nineties
ditty I believe. Can't say who in
troduced it.

asks: Is there a city -where the
bookmakers do not liimt their
pay-offs to 15-to-l but pay full
track odds on longshots?" As I
have never been a patron of
off-track bookmakers I cannot
expert on this query. But from
what I have heard about these
extremely cautious fellows one
who pays full track odds on all
winners is extremely rare. How-j
