ketball championship for the
second straight year.
The Rogues will travel to
Klamath county this week-end
where they will contend with
Merrill for the right to represent
district five in the state "B"

A tall timber combination of
Dick Huntoon and Bruce David

as the Rogues completely out
classed the Pointers In the final
stanzas. Unguardable Huntoon
rang in IS counters, 11 of them
during the last half.
Saxbury Scores First
Bill Saxbury of Central Point
tossed in a gift shot in the early
moments for the first score o
t' game. Bean countered with
a field goal for Rogue River
and Saxbury cr.me back to make
the score 3-2 for the Pointers.

Bob Kincaid and Tom Colley for
Central Point while Huntoon
fliDDed a lay-in and a gifter for
the victors evened the count at

give Rogue River a 10-8 midway
advantage.
Rogues Hold Lead

A word of advise to Salem's
grid foes next fall: The Vikings
are going to be a tough and
tricky outfit and anyone beating
them will know they have been
in a football game.
Basketball fans will get one
last look at the Southern Ore
gon conference members to
morrow night when the district
four tournament gets underway
at Southern Oregon College
gym at Ashland. Each confer
ence, member has played the
other at least twice, and in
some cases, four times yet they
must go at it again to determine
which is the better team.
Medford high went through
the league race in grand style
and came out unbeaten to
win the conference title. Be
cause of ' their , fine record,
fans are expecting to see the
Tornado sweep through the
tournament with . little
trouble. We are not going to
predict the outcome of the
tournament for it all depends
on how Bob Watson. Carl
Reich. Jim Cave, Earl Stelle,
Don Waldron and Jerry Ross
feel. They have been sick
with cheat colds and have
taken part In but two prac
tices in over a week.
In a brief running practice
yesterday they were puffing
hard and gave indications they
would not be able to play much
of the opening game against
Klamath Falls tomorrow mgnt
However, they have been in
good shape all season and could
recover fast. If the six stalwarts
are unable to plBy the larger
part of the game, Medford will
have to rely cn substitutes and
a prayer to carry them through
the tournament.
The Klamath Falls Marines
Ashland Elks basketball game
here Jan. 31, for benefit of
the Jackson county infantile
paralysis fund took in a gross
of $446.75. After $23.34 for
federal tax was deducted.
$423.41 was turned over to
Ralph Sweeney, treasurer.
That 92 to 42 shellacking Ash
land Elks hung on the Medford
high Ramblers tops anything in
this section of the state this year.
Herb Edwards forward on the
Southern Oregon college basket
ball team at Ashland, has rolled
up 72 points in three games. Can
any southern Oregon hoop play
er top that?
JUNIORS CLOSE
Medford junior high basket
ball season came to a close yes
terday when the varsity handed
Grants Pass Frosh a 28 to 25 de
feat in an overtime and Jake
Schaefer's eighth graders eked
out a 24 to 21 win over the GP
eighth graders in two over
times. Both junior high teams
are undisputed champions in
their divisions.
Earlier in the week the jun
iors thumped Jacksonville 35 to
20 and the Schaefer Mites halted
the J'Ville eighth graders 16 to

BIG CROWD SEES
An overflowing crowd of
wrestling fans at Medford ar
mory last night saw the tag
team combination of Pierre La-
Belle and Sgt. Bob Kenaston
thump Pete Belcastro and Tony
Ross and cheered wildly as pop
ular Rila Martinez dumped
Clara Mortcnson in the feature
clash.
With falls standing one each
in the tag bout, LaBelle fired a
sonnenburg at Ross but missed
and caught Belcastro squarely In
the middle, knocking the Weed
Terror into the spectators' laps.
LaBelle won the last fall for his
team by pinning Ross with a
body press. It was wild and
thrilling match all the way with
Referee Reel Dawson frequently
having his hands full keeping
the participants in line.
Miss Martinez used La Mor
tenson for a mat dusting devise
most of the evening and won the
deciding fall when Clara threw
her from the ring and would not
let her return.
Gust Johnson won on a foul
from Red Dawson in the opener.
