Sporta interest this week Is
centered around the district tour
nament to he held in Southern
'Oregon gym in Ashland, March
1 and 2. Two games will be
played Friday and two Saturday.
Bracketed lor iriaay are: The
first game Medford and Klam
ath Falls, second Grants Pass
and Ashland. Saturday the win
ners of the previous night's
games will play for first and sec
ond place, and the losers for the
third place in the district.
, The referees chosen for the
tournament are Al Ligner and
Cliff McLane.
Mr. Ralph Carr, former gov
erny of Colorado, spoke In as-
sembly February 18. The topic
of his speech was "Citizenship."
He gave many examples of
Americans who have had the
will to become great, among
those mentioned were George
Washington, Abraham Lincoln
and Lowell Thomas.
Mr. Carr also stated that his
hobby was fishing for rainbow
trout in Colorado an4 tv,Qt .v.n.

Y.M.C.A. Torch club will
sponsor a high school dance at

gram will be enacted. The
sports will be grouped under
two main headings: recreation
and competitive athletics. Bas
ketball, Softball, horseshoes and
tennis are the recreation sports.
Intermural games will be held.
Baseball and track practice
will be scheduled so that one
person may participate in both.
In assembly last Friday, the
pep team presented another of
their clever skits, "Allen's Al
ley," with Chuck Shinn as Mr.
Allen, Delores Stenerson as
Portland, Barbara Sands as Mrs.
Noosebaum, Janis Duncan as
Senato Claghorn, and Audree
Andrews as Falstaff Openshaw.
H.E.C.A. and the Music De
partment is to present a George
Washington Assembly, Friday
morning. The program which is
to pay tribute to George Wash
ington will include a "gay nine
ties" skit and music by the band
and the girl's chorus. Jerry
Liebman is in charge, with Jer
aldyn Jerome as his assistant.

William Sanders, 71 -year -old
pensioner, drowned last night in
a six-inch deep puddle of water
near his home, police reported.
His body was found this morn
ing, face down in the water.
Coroner's deputies believe he
lost consciousness while on the
way home about midnight and
fell into the pool.
