Musical Combination Pleases
In Civic Association Concert

An ensemble group consisliing
of Rene Le Roy, flutist, Siditey
Foster, pianist, and Janos facholz,
cellist, presented the second con
cert of the 1943-46 series of the
Jackson County Civic Music as
sociation last evening at the high
school auditorium. -Each of these
distinguished artists is an out
standing soloist in his own field.
The woodwind tone of the
flute blended well with the
string tones of the cello and pi
ano and each arti.st was enthu
siastically received in his solo
numbers. This unusual musicul
combination enables artists to
present the beautiful, masterful
but neglected literature written
especially for this small ensem
ble. While there was plenty of
vivacity, vigor and vitality in
the ensemble performance, the
pin-point clarity of intonation
and exactitude of attack In'
pianissimo was very noteworthy.
Avoiding inadequate trans
cription of tunes, the program
was made up of serious music in
the classic mode originally com
posed for cello, flute and harpsi
chord. Mr. Scholz played "Son
ata in A major No. 3" by Bee
thoven, showing great depth of
understanding both emotionally
and technically, while Mr. Le

Roy gave "Kanlasie for Flute
and Piano by the eminent
French composer, Faurc. With
skill, aptitude and musicianship
he pictured in tone the delicate
beauty of tne composer's concep
tion of music. '
Mr. Foster's piano playing,
both In support of his colleagues
and In his solo numbers, was
marked by faithfulness of inter
pretation and was also super
charged with a dazzling brillian
cy that carried him beyond the
capacity of his instrument and
his last note left one wishing for
more. We are a very hungry
people musically, and appreciate
a concert like this, bringing us
new combinations, new music
and artists of civic music attain
ment.
The encores were "Prelude for
Left Hand Alone", Scribine,
(piano) and the ritualistic "Fire
Dance" De Falla and "Panto
mime" from "El Amore Brujo"
also by De Falla and arranged
for small ensemble.

GIVEN INITIATION
John T. Frey was initiated In
to Crater Lake post No. 1833.
VFW and his wife, Maxine, was
obligated in the ladies' auxiliary
at the meeting Tuesday night in
the armory.
Frey and his wife met In Car
ento. Italy, where they were
stationed during the war. She
was a WAC and John was with
the 5lh Army Allied Forces head
quarters. They met in a G.I.
night club operated by Frey, be
came engaged and were to be
married in Italy, but travel ord
ers interrupted their plans. Mrs.
Frey, the former Maxine L. Can
non and Frey were married Nov.
21, 11)45.
Thirty new recruits took the
obligation in the presence of al
most 100 members.
Frank Hull, malinger of the
Jackson county Chamber of
Commerce, was principal speak
er, his topic being veterans' em
ployment and housing.

Hart were initiated and spoke on
the need of unity among veter
ans and possible means of ac
complishing such objective.

3,000 JEEPS LEFT
Washington, Feb. 20 (U.R)
The War Assets Corp. still has
3.000 surplus iecps reserved fori
veterans but when those are1
gone there probably won't be
any more. The jeeps are the re
mainder of an original offering
of 10,000 first offered to veterans
in December for business pur
poses only. From now on. how
ever, the army will need its
jeeps.-
MISSING LITTLE BOYS
FOUND IN UNDERBRUSH

Three tired, frightened missing
four-year-old boys, v.ere found
today in the Ballona Jreek can
yon after more than 100 police
had searched for them all night.
The boys, who disappeared
yesterday after talking about a
trip to the mountains, were lo
cated by juvenile officers who
had methodically combed the
underbrush with flashlights.

are the parents . of a baby boy,
