Will Sabotage Organization With
Constant Raising Of Objections

The first meetings of the United Nations Organization In
London have left the unfortunate Impression In many minds that
in the new world body, it is a case of Russia against a majority of
the other nations.
That is not exactly true. The Russians, however, did nothing
to dispel the idea but in fact strengthened it by Maverick parlia
mentary tactics which repeatedly found majority opinion against
Inem in the security council.
RUSSIA REBUFFED ON MOST POINTS
The fact is that Russia created an atmosphere of healthy dis
cussion by raising controversial problems at the first meeting of
ine council. Yet rlussia was rebuffed on most of the Important
points sne raised, ana the situation was saved only bv adroit nro
cedure.
The question troubling UNO observers Is whether Russia
really feels that the other nations are combined against her and
win raise so many oDjecllons in future meetings that the organiza
tion will bog down like the League of Nations.
Close students of Andrei Vlshinsky's tactics at the recent UNO
meetings think not. Vishinsky took his set-backs with good grace,

Birds Coming
To the editor: This is the time
of year the bird migrants com
mence moving. Our winter-
dwellers, like the waxwing and
some white crowned sparrows
and fox sparrows feel, spring is
on the way and commence the
long trip to Canada, to Alaska,
to even the Aleutian islands
where Americans ousted the
Japanese.
Meantime those that summer-
vacation with us, like the tana
gers, are coming up from Mex
ico, Guatemala, even the Pana
ma Canal. Some arrive from the
Amazon river, and even farther
south where the writer studied
them while collecting the giant
blue-silk butterflies.
A good plan for a young bird
student Is to regularly list his
birds. He then will notice how
winter visitants disappear, how
summer birds displace them.
Also he will find some birds,
like the magpie, are with us all
the year round. These are what
the scientists call "residemts."
As one does this, he will com
mence to learn which are the
Insect eaters, like the flycatch
ers. He will grasp how they
save, for human food, what oth
erwise the 6-footed, like the
grasshoppers, would devour.

operative Poultry Producers'
association held in Portland last
week-end according to Law
rence Luy, Griffin Creek poul
try raiser and director for the
association from this area. Luy
was elected a vice-president dur
ing the session.
Luy stated that the associa
tion, feeling that the poultry in
dustry is threatened by the pro
posed wheat feed limitation or
der of the government, passed
resolution asking the United
States department of agriculture
to exempt Oregon and other Pa
cific northwest sections from
the order since wheat is the
only available grain. USDA was
also asked to take Immediate
steps toward affecting a more
fair distribution of soybean
meal in order that Oregon's al
lotment would be in proportion
to the amount of meal allowed
under the current protein limi
tation order.
Also passed was a resolution
urging the government to re
lieve the repressed poultry mar
ket by including chicken and
turkey now in storage in the
war relief export program, Luy
reports. In order to divert feeds
into those types used for laying
hens, the association will dis
continue the use of fattening
mashes for heavy breed poultry
he stated, adding that this would
also tend to conserve feed for
the finishing of livestock, where
it is badly needed.

co-operative would soon an
nounce expansion plans for
Medford and Josephine county
