SEARCH FOR GIRL
Los Angeles, Feb. 18 OJ.B
Two score Boy Scouts today
joined deputy sheriffs In comb
ing isolated sections of southern
Los Angeles county for Ro
chelle Glukoster, 6, feared kid
aped by a strange man driving
a black convertible coupe.
The sheriffs office reported
it was without clues to the girl's
disappearance other than that
she was seen to enter the auto
mobile about 4 p. m. yesterday.
They speculated on a sex mo
tive because the girl's parents
are not well-to-do.

COMMUNITY CHEST of MEDFORD INC.
In compliance with the provltioni of the constitution of the Community Cheit
of Medford, Oregon, the Board of Director! lubmiti the following report, which
coven the period from April 1, 194S, to March 1, 1948i
The flical year of the organisation commence! with the first day of April end
terminate! on the thlrty-firit day of March of the following year. However, in
view of the fact that under the Conititutlon the Annuil Meeting ii required to
be held during the month of March, and alio that thii Annual Report muit be
lubmitted at the Annual Meeting, It li not ponible for the report to cover the
flical period.
The Comtltution alio require! that the book! of the Community Cheit ihall
be audited annually under the direction of the Board of Director! and that a copy
of the audit shall be Incorporated in the Annual Report. Obviouily the audit can
not cover the flical year became of the fact that this Annual Report muit be made
before the end of the flical year, to-witt at the Annual Meeting to be held during
the month of March In each year on iuch day and at luch time and place ai the
Board of Director! may decide.

The local participating agendo! of the Cheit on April 1, 1945, were ai followit
Boy Scout! of America, Salvation Army, Medford Girl Scouti, Girli' Community
Club. Jackion County Health Anodatlon, Y.M.C.A. and Jackion County Recrea
tlonal Committee (Outpoit).
With the exception of the Jackion County Recreational Committee, which
voluntarily withdrew from the Cheit during the year the remaining agencies are '
now participating In the fundi railed. ,
Ai hai been the eaie In the preceding leveral yean It was decided by the
Board of Director! to make provision In the 1945 Cheit drive for fundi for the
Oregon War Cheit. Thii eliminated two leparate drivet In the city of Medford,
namely, one for the Community Cheit and one for the Oregon War Cheat. The
amount anumed wai $12,009.00. j
The Cheit drive wai itarted on October 1, 1945. and ended on December 14,
1945. Al li usual. It wai planned that the drive ihould be cloied In a period of
two weeki, but becauie of the itrlke in the lumber Industry and the difficulty In
getting solicitor! for downtown and residential areai. It wai impossible to com- (
plete It within that period. Alio there wai exoerlenced considerable apathy to It.
Undoubtedly that feeling wai engendered by the fact that actual hoitllttlei were
over with a great many people believing that there wai no longer any need for
iuch aganclei as the U. S. O. and varloui other! for which fundi were being railed.
However, exoerlence hai proven that the need hai been even greater than before
the close of the war. Certainly the relief problem n the allied countries hai been
almost Impossible to Imagine and the domeitie and child problem! In thii country
have grown by leap! and bounds.
It Ii Interesting to note that almost 50 of the amount raited through the
drive wai contributed by subscriber! of $100.00 or more, by 77 Individual! and
companies. The total number of all subscribers to the Cheit wai 2903. We believe
that one of the reasons why the drive did not go over the top wai that the average
perion did not contribute anywhere near the equ'valent of one day! wagei or
lalary. Many contribution! ran around $I'.00 while the average dally wage or
salary wai undoubtedly In the neighborhood of $5 to $10. The qeneral rule of
thumb for contribution to the Cheit ihould be at least the equivalent of one day's
alrv or waqe, having In mind that thii drive takei care of a multitude of agencies
and comes but once a year.
The drive produced $35,189.35. or about $3,300.00 less than needed to meet
all requirement!. Thii fact necessitated a reduction of 6'i In the amount! re
quested by the varioui local agendei. The Oregon War Cheit wai allocated
$10,377.29.
The following Ii a itatement of the local agendei who are now participating
In the fundi raised by the Community Cheit. Thii itatement ihowi the amount
requested and the amount actually allocated and now being distributed to the
agency on a monthly baiuu
