the Rogue and Its tributaries be
tween April 15 and November

the resolution orders "No .per
son, firm, or corporation shall,
between (dates given) operate
or assist In the operation of any
mine or mining operation
whereby water containing mud
or tailings is discharged into the
Rogue river or any river, creek,
or stream emptying Into said
Rogue river, when the turbidity
of said river, creek, or stream
at the point of confluence with
said Rogue river Is in excess of
1,000 ppm by weight of sus
pended matter."
The resolution In dealing
with the Illinois river and the
Applegate river, both tributar
ies of the Rogue, forbids dis
charge of water from placer
mining when the turbidity of
said rivers at a point where the
bridges on the Redwood high
way cross such streams is In ex
cess of 1,000 ppm by weight of
suspended matter.
In the prosecution of viola
tion of this order, the fcoard di
rects that It shall not be neces
sary to prove service of notice
upon the defendant.

Two Distinctive Meals
with Low-Cast treats
Many of my most appealing menus are
planned around inexpensive cuts of meat.
Here are two of my best-liked dinners that
are sure to bring you compliments from
guests or family.
OLD-FASHIONED BOILED DINNER
Don't forget this old favorite for a wintry day.
Even the most discriminating eaters go for it.
I like to serve it with hot corn bread or cornmeat
muffins and a frosted apple dumpling for des
sert. I alutays pass some of the "pot liquor"
and a bowl of mustard-horse-radish sauce.
To serve 6, simmer 4 or 5 pounds of boiling
beef (choose short ribs, brisket, plate or
chuck for this) in a large kettle for 3 or 4
hours or until tender. About H hour before
serving time place on top of the meat 6
medium-sized peeled potatoes, carrots, white
turnips, onions, cabbage wedges and par
snips. Sprinkle lightly with salt and cover
tightly. Simmer until vegetables are done.
Arrange attractively on a large platter
around the meat, keeping all of one kind of
vegetable together.
POT ROAST WITH RICH VEGETABLE
GRAVY
Here's gravy that's really something. For a
Sunday dinner I like to serve pot roast and
gravy and accompany it with fluffy mashed
potatoes, broccoli with lemon butter, grapefruit
and avocado salad with French dressing, whole
wheat biscuits and lemon chiffon pie.
Brown a 4 or 5 pound pot roast in hot short
ening in a large kettle, turning often. (I
usually select one of the chuck roasts or a
rump roast to pot roast.) Add 1 to 2 cups
water or tomato juice. Put 3 or 4 cut-up
tops and outside stalks of celery, a peeled
potato, a carrot, a lare onion, some leaves
of cabbage, parsley and any left-over vege
tables you have on hand in the kettle with
the pot roast. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Cover tightly and simmer slowly several
hours or until meat is tender, adding more
liquid if necessary. When done, remove meat
and press vegetables through colander along
wish the liquid. Season the vegetable gravy
to taste with salt and pepper, a few drops of
Worcestershire or gravy sauce. I find the
mashed vegetables thicken tha gravy suffi
ciently. But if you like thicker gravy, then
it may be thickened with flour and water.
