MILO R. CONLEY
OF LAKE CREEK
TAKEN BY DEATH
Milo Russell Conley passed
away at a local hospital early
today after arriving here by
ambulance from Crescent City,
Calif., Tuesday. He was born in
Vinton, Iowa, March 23, 1873,
and he came to Brownsboro,
Ore., with his parents In 1886.
Mr.Conley lived In Jackson
county until two and one-half
years ago, when he moved to
Crescent City for his health.
As a well known member of
the Lake Creek community, he
owned a ranch between McCal
lister Soda Springs and Fish
Lake on Little Butte Creek road
for over 40 years.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs.
Irvin C. Daley of Medford, who
traveled to Crescent City Sim
day and brought him here; also
a brother, Manley Roy Conley;
two nieces. Miss Venita- Daley
of Medford, and Mrs. Maxine
Herr of San Francisco; four
nephews, Miles E. Donald, Ray
mond and Clifford Conley of
California.
Funeral services will be held
at the Pearl Funeral Home Sat
urday at 1 p. m., the Rev. D. E.
Millard officiating. Interment
will be in Brownsboro cemetery.
It is requested that only his clos
est friends attend the services,

Don Cruse, World War n vet
eran and former member of the
state police in this district, has
been appointed deputy sheriff,
Sheriff Howard Gault announc
ed today. He takes the placu of
Deputy Sheriff Vern Smith
whose resignation becomes ef
fective tomorrow, when Cruse
will assume his new duties.
Cruse Is married and a mem
ber of the Disabled Veterans of
America. He served as a para
trooper and with cadres train
ing paratroopers in several
camps. During maneuvers in
Tennessee preparatory to going
to Europe, he sustained injuries
that resulted In his discharge.
He served with the 13th airborne
division.
Two candidates for nomina
tion for sheriff of Jackson county
filed formal declarations with
the county clerk's office yester
day. They were Vern Smith, Ash
land, deputy sheriff, who seeks
the republican nomination on
the slogan "Render experienced
and courteous public service."
He terminates his connection
with the sheriff's office tomor
row. Dick Baize, connected with
the city police department, is
the first democrat to- file for of
fice, and lists as his slogan:
"Perform my duties on the same
democratic principles as my pre
decessor, Syd Brown."

Ashland Tomorrow
Ashland, Feb. 14 Funeral
services for John Alson DeAr
mond, 90, will be held at the
Litwiller Funeral Home here at
1:30 p. m. tomorrow. His death
took place Feb. 12 at Salem. The
Rev. Earl F. Downing will of
ficiate and cremation will take
place.
DeArmond lived in Medford
for several years before going
to Ashland and was a construc
tion foreman for the old Owen
Oregon Lumber Co., now Med
ford Corporation.
The deceased is survived by
three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Leigh
Ashland; Mrs. R. R. Childs, Med
ford, and Mrs. W. L. McVay,
Smith River, Cal. Also surviv
ing are six grandchildren and
one great grandchild. His wife
died in 1918.

With two knives or a pastry blender, cut
Into dry Ingredients until finely blended

Add, mixing to a moderately soft dough

1 tablespoon milk
Roll, or pat out the dough on a (loured
