pneumonia us
ually attacks
those weaken
ed by fatigue,
un u s u a 1 ex
posure, or grippe, it can also
strike healthy people!
As a matter of fact there is
no scientific evidence that those
weakened by fatigue are more
likely to have pneumonia than
you or I or Just you. I never
get fatigued, that is, not in that
sense of the term.
I do derive a mild thrill,
however, from the qualifying
adjective the insurance corpora
tion uses this winter the first
lime. I believe, the corooration
has abated a jot or title about
exposure. For as many years as
I can recall it has been just ex
oosure. This winter, you will
have to worry about UNUSUAL
exposure only but don't
worrv. for it is still un to you to
decide for yourself whether any
real or imaginary exposure is
UNUSUAL.
Here's where all Wiseacres.
Fuss-budgets and cryophobes
(cryophobia. morbid fear of
cold) get off. The remainder
of this talk is for the young
ones. who. because they know
no more about it than 1 do. dn
not bother their heads about
avoiding exposure as a matter
of their own personal comfort.
To all young readers, greet
ings from Ol' Doc Brady. What
I tell you about exposure is just
mv own belief, but there is no
other principle of health or
medicine upon the soundness of
which I am more certain. It is
this:
Exposure to sudden change.
extreme cold, dampness, draft,
insufficient clothing, insuffic
ient heat, (insufficient to, keep
one comfortable), getting wet
or any other environmental con
dition vou may conceive of as
exposure, has nothing to do
with health or illness.
That's all.
Tills is a free country and any
one may be just as ignorant as
he wishes about this. But for
goodness sake don't be perverse
too and attempt to infer that I
must be peculiarly "resistant"
or "unsucceDtible" or "insensi
tive" to cold. I like solid com
fort as well as you do. If I am
less likelv than yon are to catch
oneumonia my relative immun
ity may be due to one or more
factors but I'm dead certain it
isn't because I do not fear
drafts, wet feet, dampness or
going out without hat, shoes,
overcoat or muffler.

TO MAKE USE OF
LEIZURE HOURS
Development of hobbies in
order to mi.ke wise use of leisure
time and carry -the health,
strength and mental keenness of
youth into old age was proposed
by Dr. Elmo N. Stevenson, presi
dent of Southern Oregon Col
lege of Education, who address
ed Kiwanians Wednesday at
luncheon neeting in the Holland
Hotel Blue room.
Stevenson, whose subject con
cerned mastering the art of liv
ing, explained that hobbies cre
ated a balanced life by satisfying
inate urges .lot gratified by one's
regular work. Hobbies make life
interesting and make a person
entertaining to others.
Speaking about the college at
Ashland, also, Stevenson said
that attendance had jumped 137
per cent over last year and that
there were more men in the
school than women. He stated
that some semi-prbfessional ter
minal courses are being offered.
