MUSCLE FUNCTION
One of the most important
laws of the universe is essential
for the welfare of man. This law
concerns itself with muscular
tissue. The normal function of
this muscular tissue is contrac
tion and relaxation or expan
sion. This amounts to work for
the muscle. This work may be
in the form of labor or exercise.
Kither to the muscle is work.
The muscle must not only have
this work but it must function
normally in performing it or de
terioration sets in. In work the
muscles are too much of the
time kept in too much of a ten
sion. This results in the muscle
becoming too dense, tense and
stiff. It loses its flexibility and
normal tone. Remember that in
work the muscle must contract,
followed by a brief period of
relaxation or trouble results, as
lumbago, etc. Have this abnor
mal condition corrected before
trouble develops, that your mus
cles may function properly, and
so prevent illness. .

STEEL MERGER IS
KAISER'S LATEST
New York, Jan. 28 (U.R)
Henry J. Kaiser disclosed today
that his next step will be a billion-dollar
steel empire over
shadowing the $50,000,000 auto
industry he has just financed.
Kaiser confirmed that the first
move in a vast steel company
merger plan combination with
Colorado Fuel and Iron Corp. to
operate the government's Geneva
steel plant already has been
discussed.
In a formal statement. Kaiser
said he could not deny a report
that "Joins" the Kaiser steel
plant, at Fontana, Geneva plant.
Colorado Fuel and Iron, Wick
wire Spencer Steel Co., and Re
public Steel Corp. In "a new
giant steel enterprise."
However, Charles M. White,
president of Republic Steel, told
the United Press in Cleveland
that rumor of a merger of Re
public and the Kaiser interests
"is completely and absolutely
silly."
Doubt also was cast on the
proposed merger by a spokesman
for Otis & Co., Cleveland, bank
ers for both the Kalser-Frazer
Automobile corporation and for
Colorado Fuel and Iron. He said
he knew nothing about the mer
ger and the company "certainly
had no plans to finance it.
Kaiser's statement indicated
that a merger of the size that
has been rumored would be com
pleted in a series of steps.
FOREIGN POLICY
FACTS WITHHELD
Baltimore, Jan. 28 (U.R)
MaJ. Gen. Patrick J. Hurley,
former U. S. ambassador to
China, charged today that the
government is still withholding
from the U. S. public facts
about its foreign policy that
were "made available to foreign
organizations by leaks" from de
partment career men.
Hurley resigned as ambassador
last month after charging that
pro-communist career men in
tha U. S. foreign service and un
dermined his work In China.
In an address to the Maryland
bar association here, Hurley de
clared that the state department
was still withholding govern
ment documents which he said
supported his contentions. Sec
retary of State James F. Byrnes
defended the career men assail
ed by the former ambassador.
But Byrnes and the senate
committee. Hurley said, reject
ed his request that the docu
ments be published.
"I am confident, however,"
he added, "that the American
people are anxious to have at
least those facts in regard to
our foreign policy that are made
available to foreign organlza
tlons by leaks from the career
men in the state department."
