from carelessness about that.
You won a new "fan" by that,
and I'm. still doing fine on your
teachings. (F.R.W.)
Not a twinge as yet. I'm still
rolling somersaults every morn
ing and good old Charlie H 's
bowls (won in a raffle) nearly
every afternoon. I believe the
morning rolls and the bowling
both contribute much toward
keeping me from getting old.
Believe me, I am not fooling
about this.
However, if I had chronic
rheumatism, or anything that
behaved like joint disability not
obviously the result of injury of
the affected joint. I'd want
treatment along these lines:
. 1. An adequate diet ade
quate in caloric value of fat, pro
tein and carbohydrate, in vita
min and mineral content, in bio
logical value of proteins (that is,
they should supply all of the
essential amino-acids.) Of course
this would be a mixed diet in
clude fair proportions of meats,
fish, fowl, eggs, milk, vege
tables, fruits, cereals, nuts and
no freak or fad stuff. No non
sense about "red and white"
meat, no hokum about "acid
ash" or "alkaline ash" foods or
about "acidosis."
2. Daily sunbaths or ultravio
let lamp treatments.
3. I'd supplement my regu
lar diet with from 1,500 to 2,500
U.S.P. XII units of vitamin D
daily, since natural foods do not
supply enough vitamin D.
4. I'd see to it that my diet
included plenty of calcium,
(milk, cheese, egg-yolks, turnips,
carrots, peas, beans, nuts, pea
nuts, greens).
5. I'd keep on hand a supply
of plain wheat and chew a hand
ful once or twice a day it
makes gum seem insipid. I'd
grind some wheat coarsely in
coffee grinder or other mill and
eat a dish of it cooked to my
taste as breakfast food.
6. If I could wangle it I'd
live in an equable climate where
one can be reasonably comfort
able out of doors all the time
with a minimum of clothing.
7. For lameness and stiffness
I'd have diathermy treatments.
8. If I found the disability
gaining on me in one or more
joints I'd want to try daily hypo
dermic or intramuscular injec
tions of parathyroid hormone for
a few weeks. This is all I can
tell about it for further details
consult your physician.
9. Rheumatlz or no rheuma-
tlz I'd take my Iodin Ration
every day.
