Streptomycin Drug
May Hold Cure For
Dread Tuberculosis
Detroit, Jan. 17 (U.R) Pre
liminary success In the use of
the new drug streptomycin in
treating tuberculosis was re
vealed today to more than 600
child specialists attending the
annual convention of the Ameri
can Academy of Pediatrics. .
A summary of clinical and
experimental studies and obser
vations made at the Mayo Clinic,
Rochester, Minn., was presented
by Dr. H. Corwin Hinshaw and
Dr. William H. Feldman.
While experiments have been
encouraging, the doctors warned
the public not to expect the drug
to be a substitute for sanitarium
care or surgical treatment. They
also pointed out that the drug
was being produced in such
small amounts that it is unob
tainable except for research.

pears in superior court today
for a hearing on his estranged
wife's request for $710 per
month alimony pending trial
of their contested divorce suit.
Mrs. Norma Mauldin, 22, also
asked an order restraining
Mauldin from taking their
child, Bruce Patrick, 2, out of
the state.
She estimated In her request
for alimony that Mauldin earn
ed $200,000 last year and has
$75,000 In cash.
Mauldin started proceedings
against his wife last October,
charging adultery.
