URGED TO HELP
CLOTHING DRIVE
Groups of the county were
urged again today by committees
handling the victory clothing
drive to cooperate in every va'
possible in order that the drive:
might be "put over the top."
Carey W. Thomson, Jackson
county chairman for the drive,
gave high praise to churches for
"doing a splendid Job" but added
"We have been hopeful, how
ever, that clubs, lodges, frater
nal organizations and unions
would also take up collections
of clothing and bundles. Laun
dries and dry cleaners could do
likewise."
The Salvation Army has made
a splendid collection, Thomson
states, having turned in over 600
pounds of clothing, bedding and
shoes already. Boy Scout troops
throughout the city and county
are bringing in daily contribu
tions under the supervision of
Gordon Gilmore, Scout execu
tive, and Scoutmasters. Mack
Lillard has requested wrestling
fans to bring donations to the
armory on match nights for the
balance of this mon'h.
City schools under E. H. Hed
rick are planning a drive this
week and C. R. Bowman, county
superintendent of schools, states
that the drive through county
schools has gotten underway
with good results promised.
Collection depots have been
established throughout down
town Medford in leading stores
so that all clothing donated will
be inside in a dry, guarded place.
Neighborhood stores are asked
to accept the clothing for the
drive and to phone Reginald
Staff at 3843 for pickups.
Donors may leave bundles at
the main depot at the USO on
Riverside and Sixth streets.
Humphrey's garage on South
Riverside, at the Medford and
Jackson hotels, M M Department
store, Mann's, Acme Hardware,
Rogue River Chevrolet garage
or at any church. Donors are
also asked to write a letter and
enclose it with their contribu
tions. Persons having large paper
cartons are asked to place their
contributions in these since they
are urgently needed for packing
and shipping. Heavy cord or
twine will also be greatly ap
preciated by the crew in charge
of packing ar.d shipping, under
the direction of Dale Stephen
son.
It Is stressed again that
shoes, boots, overshoes and foot
wear of all sorts must be secure
ly tied In pairs.
A big parade, signalling the
end of the drive, is planned for
Saturday, Jan. 26, with donors
to congregate at Main and Cen
tral arounl 9 p. m. to deposit
contributions In boxes arranged
for that ytirpose.
