Will Meet Tuesday
Mrs. Victor Birdseye and Mrs
H. L. Brown will be on the pro
gram for the meeting of the
Women's Missionary society of
the Presbyterian church to be
held Tuesday at the church.
Special music will be furnished
by Mrs. William McAllister.
Luncheon will be served at 1
o'clock, and a nursery will be
provided for small children.
Those attending are asked to
bring their luncheon service.

Details of the wedding of Miss
Wanda Hudson, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. R. M. Hudson, Vernon,
Tex., to Lt. Donald R. Grigsby,
son of Mrs. and Mrs. Roy Grigs
by, Hillcrest Road, have been
j received here. The ceremony
j was performed Dec. 6 at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A.
Huber in Vernon.
Prior to the ceremony Miss
Anita Faye Webb played "Clair
de Lune" and Miss Nelda Naylor
sang "Because', accompanied by
Miss Webb.
Dr. E. S. James of the First
Baptist church read the vows be
fore an improvised altar of
cathedral candelabra with light
ed tapers and baskets of white
carnations and gladioli with
fern.
Given In marriage by her
brother,. Nelson - Hudson, the
bride was attired in a dove gray
suit with black accessories and
wore a corsage of salmon pink
gladioli and tuberoses.
Miss Billye Hudson, sister of
the bride, was maid-of-honor
and Sgt. A. Rauf acted as best
man for the groom. The Misses
Jean Turkett and Billye Mc
Mahen lighted the tapers.

the bride's table being arranged
with white button chrysanthe
mums, mistletoe and Christmas
candles.
Lt. and Mrs. Grigsby left im
mediately after the reception for
Midland Army Air base in Texas
where the officer Is now sta
tioned. Mrs. Grigsby was graduated
from Vernon High school, later
attended business school and for
the past four years has been em
ployed by . a credit association.
Lt. Grigsby attended school at
Eagle Point and Ashland before
enlisting in the army air force
in 1942. Graduating as a bom
bardier, he was stationed in Eng
land with the Eighth air force
and since returning to this coun
try has been stationed at Chil
dress air base before being trans
ferred to Midland. He was
awarded the air medal with
three oak leaf clusters and the
distinguished flying cross with
one cluster.

Told In Portland
Of Interest Here
Announcements of the betroth
al of two couples, made recently
in Portland, are of interest to
friends here, both young men
being students from Medford.
The engagement of Miss Bar
bara Louise Finch of Portland
to Lewis Wilson Church of Med
ford was announced at a lunch
eon which Miss Finch gave at
the Mallory Hotel. The bride-to-be
Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ralph D. Finch, Portland, while
Mr. Church is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Klemm, 1119 West
Main street.
Miss Finch Is a former student
at Oregon State college while
her fi nee, who returned to this
country in November after serv
ing in Italy with the Tenth
Mountain Division, has resumed
his studies at the college.
Also revealed was the engage
ment of Miss Phyllis Lehman,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A.
Lehman of Portland to Alfred
Ewing Dodson, Jr., son of Dr.
and Mrs. A. E. Dodson of 815
Taylor street, Medford. The an
nouncement was made at a party
at the Lehman home.
The bride-to-be is a junior at
the University of Oregon, where
she is a member of Delta Delta
Delta social sorority. Mr. Dodson
is a junior at the University of
Oregon Medical school, Portland,
and is affiliated with Nu Sigma
Nu medical fraternity.
No date for the wedding has
been announced.

Newly installed officers pre
sented Mrs. Hamilton with a
bouquet of yellow chrysanthe
mums in an addenda arranged
by Mrs. Ethel Stimson. The
Courtesy Girls gave an addenda
entitled "Violets for Violet" with
Mrs. Charles Hopkins singing an
appropriate song. Included in the
group are the Mesdames D. R.
Allred, Luther Day, Ray Cham
berlain, Merritt Swing, Bert
Langston, Charles McCoy, Mur
iel Perry and Clarence Coon.
Mrs. Lloyd Stimson, retiring
matron, was presented a past
matron's jewel, a gift of the
chapter, by Orville Hamilton, re
tiring patron. Mr. Hamilton was
presented his past patron's pin
a gift of Mr. and Mrs. Stimson,
by Mr. Abbott, new patron.
Mrs. Koehler, retiring as or
ganist after 13 years of service,
received a gift from the chapter
presented by Mrs. Howard
Jewett.
New officers wore corsages of
yellow and blue and decorations
for the chapter room were in
same colors, with yellow ac
cacia, ferns and palms forming
an attractive setting. Mrs. Leon
ard Freeman and Mrs. Merritt
Swing had arranged these.
The unusual dining room dec
orations were in a winter won
derland theme, with white trees,
white cedar sprigs and white
figurines used on each table.
These original decorations had
been made by Mrs. Ellis Clark.
Her committee included the
Mesdames Edward C. Faber, Guy
Tex, Mary Moore and Everett
A. Faber.
Special guests for the evening
included Mrs. Hope Wood, Grant
Todd, Mrs. Amelia Hiles, Mrs.
Mabel Todd and J. E. Mathews.
Next meeting of the chapter
will be Jan. 22 at the temple.

Plan Joint Meeting
Members of the Ashland and
Medford chapters of the Ameri
can Association of University
Women will hold the annual
joint meeting this week. The
meeting has been set for Wed
nesday at the Lithia Hotel in
Ashland, at 7:30 p. m. with the
Ashland group to provide the
program.

Knights of Pythias and Pyth
ian Sisters held the annual joint
installation of officers Wednes
day at the lodge hall. Harry Bry
ant is the new chancellor com
mander and Edna Bryant is the
newly installed head of the Sis
ters. Installing officers for the
Knights were C. C. Howard,
grand chancellor; William Wal
den, grand vice-chancelor; John
Dodge, grand prelate; Baker
Yourbrough, master of arms. In
addition to Mr. Bryant officers
installed were William Swartz,
vice-chancellor; Harold Fry, Jr.,
prelate; Ray Yost, master of
works; Alfred Wolf, master of
finance; Russell Wilson, master
of exchequer; Earl Lock, outer
guard.
For the Pythian Sisters Bessie
Michael was installing grand
chief; Adelaide Swartz, grand
manager, and Elsie Casebeer,
grand senior. Installed were
Edna Bryant, most excellent
chief; Alice Bilderback, past
chief; Florence Scigcl, senior;

gerald, former Medford resi
dents, have returned to the city

New officers for the Girl
Scout Leaders association were
elected at a meeting Monday aft
ernoon at Scout headquarters
with Mrs. H. J. Roomer named
president. Mrs. B. C. Taylor was
elected vice-president; Mrs. Lee
Van Ausrinll, secretary, and
Mrs. Lloyd Smylie, treasurer.
Mrs. Clarence Meeker present
ed the topic, "Courtesies," for
Girl Scout troop discussion.
Helpful suggestions and refer
ences were given for all age
groups and courtesy tips for var
ious occasions were stressed.
Hostesses for the meeting
were Mesdames Rollin Jones,
Walter Jensen, Ernest Kessler,
Eva Kight and Alberta Kehn.
