WHAT DOES THE COP
I have been taking ambulant

c e n 1 1 y. The

me to take
mineral oil
and also a
preparation of
cascara to
keep the bow
els regulated.
But according
to your teach
i n g s mineral
oil is not de
sirable for con
stant use. You

say flax seeds
A nurse told
me flax seeds cannot
take the
place of mineral oil as a lubri
cant and will simply form bulk.
. . . (F.M.S.)
After all, I suppose it doesn't
matter much what the doctor,
the nurse and I say about it.
When we are through yammer
ing you'll probably stop on your
way to the store some fine morn
ing and find out what the cop
at the corner has to say. What
I can't understond is how you
have managed to elude the drug
clerk who sells you the stuff. As
salesman the drug store coun
selor naturally knows as much
about human pathology as a
shoeclerk does about bunion and
Buerger's disease, or so he gives
gullible customers to under
stand. Notwithstanding the adverse
judgment of the authorities I
still say that if I were in your
place, F.M.S., I'd take no min
eral oil nor any cascara com
bination or other cathartic.
I'd take only plain, whole,
clean, raw flax seeds, a heaping,
teaspoonful once or twice a day,
every day, for several weeks or
months.
At the same time I'd keep on
hand a supply of plain, whole,
clean, raw wheat, and I'd chew
a mouthful of it two or three
times a day.
Third, I'd scout around and
try to find some bananas. If I
could find them I'd eat at least
three or four ripe bananas daily,
more if I liked, never less.
That's all.
On that program and no low
cracks from kibitzers, if you
please I'd sit tight, in complete
assurance that Nature, long de
posed and almost forgotten, will
presently take over control.
In fact, if Nature has been sup
planted by Nostrums, no matter
whether you have developed
hemorrhoids or not, some such
plan as this will restore natural
control, provided you are not
too ignorant of elementary phys
iology. However, if the nostrum
mongers have got you trained as
a sucker, you may be hopelessly
addicted by now, but anyway it
can do no harm to spend a long
winter evening reading "The
Constipation Habit and Colon
Hygiene", one . of Oi' Doc

Sour Milk
Is there any danger to health from
drinking sour milk? If so, what?
(C. W. H.
Answer On the contrary It Is
beneficial to health. If you Ilk !t.
Some people like sour milk as well
as or better than buttermilk. The
advantages from drinking it are vir
tually the same as from drinking
buttermilk or anv of the fancy
"cultured" milk beverages. Of couth
sour whole milk Is twice as nourish

cream has been removed) or separa

stead of skimming, and skim milk 1s
equal to buttermilk in caloric value.
