young man explained that he
had been following, I forget
whose mail-order "course" for
development of superb man
hood or something of the sort
for several years. The boy's
pride of achievement was al
most pathetic really so, as It
turned out. As though uncon
rinnlv he contrived to pose
several times during the inter-!
view In the superb manhood
pose so effectively employed by
Moose Musclebound. The youth
said he had gone as far as soph
omore year In high school but
had left school then, for some
obscure reason.
This one handsome young
man with the abnormal chest
expansion flunked because he
had Incipient pulmonary tuber
culosis. All the other young

expansion passed the examina
tion. Moral: Chestlness outside of
the comic strip doesn't mean
a thing.

The Interstate Commerce com
mission today postponed inde
finitely the effective date of the
new railroad freight rates pro
vided in its unprecedented equa
lization order of May 15.
The new rates were sched
uled to go into effect Jan. 1,
after two previous postpone
ments. They have now been on
file with the ICC almost a month,
in accordance with commission
regulations.
The proposed schedule provid
ed a 10 per cent increase In so
called' "class rates" for the
northeastern section of the coun
try and a 10 per cent drop
everywhere else except the far
west.

UNDER ONE COMMAND

Douglas MacArthur announced
today the consolidation of five
army air forces in the Pacific
into a single command called
PACUSA Pacific Air Command
U. S. Army.
The command Includes the
Fifth, Seventh, Eighth, 13th and
20th air forces.
The announcement said PA
CUSA will provide air control
for enforcement of Japanese
surrender terms and also provide
a striking force In the Pacific.
