meaning of Title 21. United

in that a product of less than the
required percent of soluble
solids content was substituted In
whole or in part for what the
article of food supposedly con
sisted of, and misbranded within
the meaning of Title 21, United
States Code, Section 343 (g) (1)
In that they fall to conform to
the definition and standard for
fruit Jam and fruit Jolly pub
lished in the Federal Register of
September B, 1040 (5 F.R. 3SS4,
3S98) and appearing in the Cu
mulative Supplement to the
Code of Federal Regulations of

under Title 21 as Parts 20.0 and

the Charleston Navy Yard, the
U. S. Navy is going through its
ships like a good housewife in
spring-cleaning, discarding gome
pieces and packing others away
in moth balls for possible future
reference.
In the moth ball department,
100 destroyers are being stored
at Charleston as part of the in
active fleet, ready for imme
diate conversion to active serv
ice in the event of war.
And other vessels, too costly
to maintain in peacetime or con
sidered obsolete, are being de
commissioned and sold to pri
vate interests or dismantled for
junk.
For storage purposes, ships
are divided Into "divisions"
(three ships) and "nests" (six
ships) and berthed in Charles
ton's Wando River.
All but one ship in each
group are decommissioned, and
the one remaining active is
hooked up to supply power for
the others. Dehumidificatlon
machinery is Installed aboard
each vessel, to keep it dry, and
ships' fixtures are battened
down to prevent damage.
Ships headed for the scrap
heap are stripped of all usable
articles before being junked.
These are such oldsters as PG
17 and 18 gunboats built in
the early 1900s and used since
to train armed guard crrws.
On vessels suitable for sale
to the public, such as the con
verted yacht Sapphire which
served during the second World
