EX-FELON ADMITS

San Francisco, Dec. 15 (U.R)
Thomas Henry McMonigle, 35-year-old
ex -convict has con
fessed the kidnap-murder of
Thora Chamberlain, 14-year-old
San Jose, Cal., bobby-soxer, the
Federal Bureau of Investigation
announced today.
McMonigle, an ex-convict and
one-time bus driver in San Ma
teo, Cal., admitted shooting the
attractive brunette to death on
a lonely road and dumping her
body over a 350-foot cliff in the
Pacific ocean.
The disclosure came six weeks
and one day after Thora, daught
I er of a San Jose contractor, van-
ished after getting into the bat
tered sedan of the man whom
Thora's schoolmates said had
tried to lure other girls with of
fers of a "job taking care of
children."
The girl's body has not yet
been recovered, and E. J. Con
nelley, assistant director of the
FBI In charge of the Chamber
lain and Dickie Turn Suden
cases in San Francisco, said the
search in the immediate area be
neath the cliff has been aban
doned because of "impossible
conditions."
McMonigle will be turned over
today to Sheriff William J. Emlg
of Santa Clara countv.
The FBI said that McMonigle
admitted luring Thora into his
car by asking her the direction
to near-by Santa Cruz. He said
he became lost because of un
familiarity with the roads but
finally reached Santa Cruz and
then turned off on California
state highway No. 1 and approxi
mately three-tenths of a mile
south of the Santa Cruz-San Ma
teo county line he shot the girl
to death with an automatic pis
tol, i
