Public Invited to Witness
Formal Ceremony 8 p.m.;
Brig. Gen. to Present.
To the skirling of bagpipes
and the roll of highland drums,
Co. A, local rifle unit of the
first battalion, Oregon State
Guard, will parade Tuesday
evening at the armory to honor
officers and men of the unit
who are to be decorated with
war service ribbons by the state
of Oregon,
Brig. Gen. Raymond Olson,
acting adjutant general of Ore
gon, will decorate those entitl
ed to the awards in a ceremony
commencing at 8 p. m. Company
A will parade, headed by the
Ashland American Legion kilty
band which will provide martial
music for the event. It is be
lieved this will be the only time
in U. S. military history, outside
of Marine corps ceremonies at
Washington, D. C, in which a
Scotch bagpipe band has headed
an American military unit for
receipt of American war decora
tions.
Public Invited
The public is invited to wit
ness the ceremonies from the
armory balcony. Relatives and
friends of the guardsmen will
occupy reserved seats on the
drill floor. Military police wll
act as ushers and a group of
girls from the USO will attend
as hostesses.
The ceremcnies will be the
first held at the armory since
1941 and will mark commence
ment of formation of new unitf
of the National, Guard of the
United States which will even
tually take over duties of the
Oregon State Guard as now
formed.

"The Guiding Star"
Ckristmas Play At
Methodist Church
Eleven Young Adults of the
Methodist Church on West Main
and Laurel streets, will present
a forty-five minute play in the
Church auditorium tonight at
7:30. Dr. Louis C. Kirby, pas
tor, announces that careful prep
aration has been given this
Christmas number, "The Guid
ing Star," to make it an Inspir
ing two-act dramatization of the
Birth scene of the Christ-child.
Other numbers include a cello
and violin selection by Vivian
and Genevieve Bush, a solo:
"There Is Room in My Heart
for Thee," by Mrs. Helen Pierce
and a solo: "O Holy Night," by
Mrs. Lucille Schoppert.
The following persons are in
the play: John Ousterhout.
Evelyn Medlin, Thelma Lough
ary, Charles Bray, Jerry Igo,
Margery Bloomingcamp, Frank
lin Fanger, Wilbur Eicher, War
ren Bennet, Bernice Blooming
camp and Iris Dewald. The play
is supervised by Mrs. Louis
Kirby. The public is invited.
VFW to Arrange
Christmas Party
For Service Men
Veterans of Foreign Wars will
hold their annual Christmas tree
party at 7:30 p. m., December 21
in the U. S. O. auditorium. All
service or ex-servicemen and
their families are invited.
Parents may bring one present
for each of their children. It
will be placed on the tree and
Santa Claus will call the child's
name and they will rece:. the
present on the platform. The
child's name should be printed
plainly on the package.
Packages may be brought to
the U. S. O. and they will be
taken care of by Miss O'Denny,
director of U. S. O. activities.
Packages may be left from
December 17 to 21. Entertain
ment and goodies for every child
will be provided by V. F. W.
