BASE HERE FOR

Ten officer! nd about 34 en
listed men, manning ten planea,
will make up Sector Center No.
7 of the search and rescue unit
of the Army air corps now being
established at the Medford air
base. Major Frank Rasor of the
unit announced today. It la ex
pected that the unit will be com
pletely ready for operation by
the end of the week the major
said.
Five of the planes will be of
the liason aircraft type and five
will be twin-engine planes, Ra
sor declared. While primarily
intended for the rescue of serv
ice personnel, the unit will also
be available for transport aid
and other rescue work, the offi
cer said. The unit will be or
ganized to take care of ground
rescue operations, will be affill-
Btcd with the ski patrol and will
work in close contact with for
est rangers, state patrolmen and
local authorities, according to
Major Rasor.

hearing any unusual noise which
might be that of a crashing
fclnne, noticing unusual fires
which might result from a crash
led plane are asked to call the
Medford air base, collect if
.necessary, phone 6281, exten
sion six, and convey the Infor
mation to Major Rasor, he said.

Central Point Grange meeting
Friday night was opened with
the lecturer's program In charge
of Cleo Young. First numbers
were given by Alexander's Ha
waiian guitar band of Medford
followed with moving pictures
of the Oregon state highway
and Oregon hydroelectric plants.
During business session $38
was voted to be used to aid an
afflicted family.
Edith Bohnert offered her res
ignation as assistant to the Ju
venile matron. The officers
were advised of the Installation
to be held at the hall Dec. 19,
conducted by O. C. Maust.
H. E. C. chairman announced
the Christmas party to be held
Thursday, Dec. 20, at the home
of Mrs. Eula Foley, with 1
o'clock luncheon.

X-Ray Project
Much credit is due a number
of people for the success of the
chest X-ray project In the Cold
Hill community, where 348 per
sons were X-rayed, Mrs. Nor
man Gall, chairman, said yester
day In publicly thanking her
aides.
"If it is not too late". Mrs.
Gall declared In Medford, "I
would like to thank the follow
ing people for the success of our

Caesarian Infant
Survives Mother
Portlond, Ore.. Dec. 12 An
emergency caesarian operation
performed at a Portland hospi
tal Just a few minutes after the
mother had died saved the life
of her son, hospital officials re
vealed today.
The mother died of pneumon
ia Sunday night and the resi
dent physician at St. Vincents
hospital, Dr. Jerry Nelson
operated Immediately. Hospital
officials said it was one of few
successful such operations.
Although premature, the
child was reported normal and
thriving In an Incubator. He
weigher four pounds, two
ounces.
School Enlargement

teen members of Medford local
659 Electrical Workers Union
AFL under supervision of Ivan
Waddcll volunteered to put the
wiring In the new American
Legion Memorial building last
Sunday. Needless to say the
generous offer of the union men
was gratefully accepted. In
eight hours the building was
completely wired. A Myers-
Holland Post spokesman voiced
the organization's gratitude for
the union s cooperation and list
ed the workmen in addition to

wished to publicly thank, as fol

Spring Convention
The Jackson County Mining
association is making tentative
plans for a western states min
ing convention here some time
next spring according to an an
nouncement made at a recent
meeting of the Jacksonville
Chamber of Commerce. It Is
thought that the convention will
be planned for May. It was said,
with sessions open to anyone In
terested. A campaign Is also underway
in Jacksonville to erect a mem
orial to honor veterans of all
wars.
DENTAL DEAN "NAMED
Portland, Ore., Dec. 12 U.R
The Oregon state board of
higher education today named
Dr. Harold J. Boyes, from
Northwestern University, as
dean of the new university of
Oregon dental school In Port
land. Dr. Noyes will receive
$8500 and will take over his
new duties July 1, 1946 or
earlier. He Is known as an out-'
standing dontal educator.
Wyoming has a total of 4700
federal employees, according to
civil service commission records.

In a precedent-shattering move,
the army is shipping home the
bodies of two pilots of Mexico's
famed Fighter Squadron 201
military officials disclosed to
day.
The admission came grudg
ingly. First questions concern
ing the bodies brought the off
hand reply the men were "Just
a couple Mexicans."
Semi-official military sources
explained the secrecy surround
ing the return of the bodies as
matter of policy."
"There has been considerable
agitation to have our American
dead returned home for burial.
they said. "This incident would
be ammunition for exponents of
such a move."
