Of Seaplane Tender

Livingston, 513 King' street, re
cently sent home a newspaper
article about the VSS Barataria,
on which he is a crew member.
The article, published in Shang
hai, China, while the ship was
anchored offshore, spoke of the
Barataria, a seaplane tender, as
being a "typical American navy
ship that made an allied victory
possible," and gave a complete
account of the ship's war his
tory, including its survival of
two recent typhoons in the Pa
cific. Livingston enlisted In the
navy in July, 1942, and saw
action in Alaska and the Pacific
aboard the USS Raleigh, before
being transferred to the Barataria.
Indians who worked In a re
cent motion picture filmed at
Jackson Hole, Wyo.. took their
fancy costumes along with them,
but didn't get a chance to use
them.
Lovelorn "Advice

Beatrice Fairfax will give no
more advice to the lovelorn.
Mrs. Marie . Manning Gasch,
70, known to millions of Ameri
cans as the "Beatrice Fairfax"
whose daily newspaper column
tackled problems of the lonely
human heart, died at her home
here of heart failure yesterday.
The funeral will be private.
Although she had many imita
tors, Mrs. Gasch was the first au-
