Doris Doughton,
Richard Jewett
Married in Salem
An event of Sunday, Nov. 18
was the wedding in Salem of
Miss Doris Doughton, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Millard B.
Doughton of that city, to Rich
ard David Jewett, son of Mr.
and Mrs. H.-P. Jewett of Cen
tral Point. The vows were ex
changed at the Jason Lee Me
morial Methodist church at four
o'clock in the afternoon in front
of an altar banked with chrys
anthemums and white candles.
The Rev. S. Raynor Smith of
ficiated. Mrs. Vida Miller sang "God
Gave Me You" and "Because,"
with Miss Alice Rose at the
organ.
Given in mariage by her
father, the bride wore a gown
of white taffeta with a full skirt
and train and her fingertip
length veil was lace edged and
fell from a lace crown. Her
bouquet was of bouvardia and
Cecil Bruner roses centered with
a white orchid.
Mrs. Johr H. Bowers, Jr.,
Matron-of-honor, wore a gown of
pink jersey and carried chrysan
themums. Bridesmaids were
Miss Rebekah Putnam of Port
land, who wore blue marquis
ette, and Miss Marjorie Jewett,
sister of the groom, whose dress
was yellow marquisette. Both
carried bouquets of pastel chrys
anthemums. Delbert Ayres was best man
for Mr. Jewett and ushers were
Alan Jewett, brother of the
groom, and Richard Batdorf.
Mrs. Doughton wore a blue
silk poka dot dress for the wed
ding while the groom's mother
was gowned in a blue wool
frock.
A wedding reception In the
church parlors followed the ser
vice. The bride's table was cen
tered with white chrysanthe
mums and candles and clusters
of white roses were caught at
the comers of the white lace
cloth. Mrs. I. M. Doughton pre
sided at the table, with Mrs.
Preston ,Dougnton serving Ices
and Mrs. Wayne Doughton the
coffee. Mrs. William Mickel
son served punch. Assisting
were Mrs. Alan Jewett, Mrs.
Donald Doughton, Miss Bernice
and Miss Vivian Boyce and Mrs.
G. O. Boyce was in charge of the
dining room, with Miss Rosalie
Hoover passing the guest book.
Mr. and Mrs. Jewett are mak
ing a wedding trip to beach
resorts and will then arrive in
Medford to make their home.
The bride attended Salem
high school and Willamette Uni
versity while the groom attend
ed Central Point high school and
Willamette University. He re
cently returned from overseas
duty in Europe, and was in the
army about three and one-half
years. Mr. Jewett will return
to the staff of the Mail-Tribune
the first of December.

On Wedding Trip

Lt. and Mrs. Curtis Edward
Hopkins, (nee Betty Jane John
son) are in Medford to spend
several days with the lieuten
ant's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cur
tis L. Hopkins, Old Stage Road.
Since their wedding, which took
place In Billings, Mont., Oct. 29,
Lt. and Mrs. Hopkins have been
on a month's wedding trip and
early next month the officer
will report at the army air base,
Santa Ana, Calif., for assign
ment. The Jo"hnson-Hopklns rites
were read at the Methodist par
sonage by the Rev. Caton at
eight o'clock in the evening. For
the service the bride wore an
aqua suit with black accessories
and an orchid corsage. Her at
tendant, Mrs. Robert Wm. For
manack ,a cousin, wore a suit of
heliotrope tone with black acces
sories and a corsage of gardenias
and rosebuds. Mr. Formanack
served as best man for Lt. Hop
kins. Mrs. Charles P. Johnson,
the bride's mother, and Mrs. O.
R. Stovall, an aunt, were also
present for the service.
A wedding dinner was serv
ed at the Billings Country club.
During their wedding trip Lt.
and Mrs. Hopkins visited the
bride's brother, Pfc. Charles
Johnson, a patient at ' Fitzsim
mons General Hospital, Denver.
Colo., and after a return visit at
Billings, came to Medford by
way of Missoula, Mont., and
Spokane, Wash.
Mrs. Hopkins is a daughter
of the late Dr. Charles P. John
son and Mrs. Johnson, who now
resides in Billings. Both Lt.
and Mrs. Hopkins attended the
Medford schools, Mrs. Hopkins
graduating in 1944 and the
groom In 1941. The bride at
tended the College of the Black
Hills, Spearfish, S. D., and latw
was a student at Denver Univer
sity, where she was a member
of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and
a pledge of Sigma Alpha Iota,
musical honorary fraternity,
Lt. Hopkins attended the
University of Montana, where
he was president of the fresh
man class and a member of Sig
ma Nu fraternity. He has been
In the army air corps for about
three years and recently return
ed fom Italy where he served
with the 15th air force for a
year.
Daughters In Medford
For Thanksgiving Day
Spending the Thanksgiving
holidays in Medford with their
parents were the Misses Joyce
and Joanne Utz, daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Utz, 301
Crater Lake avenue. Miss Joyce
is a junior at the University of
Oregon and Miss Joanne Is a
sophomore at the school. Both
are members of Delta Zeta
sorority.
