who recently returned from serv

To Inspect Federal Inspection
of Co. A, First Regiment, Oregon
State Guard, will be held Wed
nesday, Nov. 21, according to O.
E. Sabin, captain commanding
the company. Tuesday evening
men of the company are asked
to assemble for special drill.
Both meetings will be at 8 p. m.
Phoenix Man Home LeRoy
Tye, former painter, 3c, return
ed Saturday to the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Tye,
route 1, Phoenix, following an
honorable discharge from the
navy Seabees at Bremerton,
Wash. Tye, who entered the
navy In May, 1942, served in the
Pacific theater 32 months and
received the bronze star, bat
talion commendation, American
area campaign ribbon, Asiatic
Pacific theater ribbon, good con
duct medal and the victory
medal.

Tire Stolen S. M. Davis, 940
Edwards street, reported to city
police yesterday the theft Sun
day night of a 6.00-16 wire wheel
and tire, taken from his auto,
parked in front of the Davis resi
dence. Sanderson Home Following
three years with the navy, Wil
liam Sanderson has returned to
Medford from Bremerton, Wash.,
where he received an honorable
discharge from the service. He
resides with his wife at 816 West
Second street. A former coxs
wain, Sanderson spent 25 months
with amphibious forces in the
South Pacific area.
Brothers Meet Marvin L.
Williams, Sle, F.C. on the LST
938, paid his brother, Pfc. Wil
liam J. (Bill) Williams, with the
First Cavalry Division stationed
in Tokyo, a surprise visit on Nov.
3, according to word received by
the parents of the two men, Mr.
and Mrs. LeRoy Williams of
route 2, Ashland. This was the
first meeting of the two since
Marvin Williams entered the
navy in August of 1944.
WAC Arriving First Sgt.
Elizabeth Jane Miller of the
Women's Army corps arrived in
Medford this morning to spend
30 days with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. G. W. Jacobs, 35 Myrtle
street. Sgt. Miller has been in
the WAC for three and one-half
years. She was in charge of the
headquarters office at the Santa
Ana air base for a considerable
period and for the last six
months has been at the head
quarters office of Williams Field,
Chandler, Ariz.
Enlists Roy Kenneth Morris.
route 1, box 156, has re-enlisted
in the army according to a news
release from the military per
sonnel procurement service at
Portland. Morris, who served
15 months overseas in the Euro
pean theater, held the rank of
technician fifth grade in the sig
nal corps of the 91st Infantry
Division. He holds the good con
duct medal, the western defense
medal and combat infantryman's
badge. His brother, Clyde
Eugene Morris, is serving in the
navy. The soldier's wife resides
at the route 1 address.

Auto Mishaps City police in
vestigated an auto accident at
the intersection of North River
side avenue and Manzanita street
yesterdav after cars operated by
John W. Leith. 1034 Court street,
and Nettie E. Shough. Trail, col
lided, causing considerable dam
age to both autos, according to
officer's reports. Also reported
was an accident Monday morning
when considerable damage was
caused cars operated by George
W. Southwick, 113 East lltli
street, and Mrs. Owen Walker,
445 South Front street, after
they collided at the intersection
of ilth and King streets.

Romine Discharged Lloyd
Romine, son of Thornton Ro
mine, Maple Park drive, arrived
home this week from Ft. Lewis.
Wash., following an honorable
discharge from the army after
39 months' service. Romine, who
held the rank of technician, fiftli
grade, served 32 months in the
European theater, where he took
part in action in Africa, Sicily,
and Italy, receiving the purple
heart for wounds received in ac
tion in Sicily, and four bronze
battle stars. Romine's wife, the
former Barbara Lindsay, of Glas
gow, Scotland, is expected to ar
rive In the States soon from
Marseille, France. The couple
were married in France in Sep
tember.

New cases of chickenpox con
tinue to be reported in Ioiro
numbers to the office of the
county health officer, Dr. A.
Erin Merkel. Nine new cases
were reported during the week
ending Nov. 10, eight of the
cases being In Medford and one
in Gold Hill.
Also reported were one case
of scarlet fever in Central Point,
one case of measles in Ashland
and one case of mumps at Camp
White.

RAINS BENEFICIAL TO
GRAINS AND PASTURE
Rains falling over the county
generally the past week-end
were beneficial to fall sown
grain and snow in the high hills
improved the 1946 irrigation
water prospects, th county
agent's office reports. Some of
the grain has started to grow.
The rains also spurred pastures
and started grass growing on the
lower ranges. In some sections
stockmen have started feeding
hay to stock.
