    Redskins Thump
Gold Hill, 37-7
Jacksonville, Nov. 10 Jack
sonville Redskins defeated Gold
Hill 37 to 7 in a county league
six-man football game at Gold
Hill Friday afternoon. Revers
ing the usual procedure of stick
ing to the ground in wet weath
er, the Redskins unleashed a
spectacular passing attack after
discovering the field was so
deep in mud it was impossible
to move the ball on the ground.
Jacksonville completed 50 per
cent of their passes and netted
five of their six touchdowns via
the air. Gold Hill's lone tally
came on a pass.
Farragut, Idaho, Nov. 10 U.R)
The Farragut navy football team
defeated the University of Idaho
14-6 before a small crowd here
today that braced bad weather
to witness the Bluejacket's sec
ond victory over the Vandals
this season.

IS JAILBOARDER
Lt. Hugh Collins Pet Is

"Snafu", a South Seas parrot
belonging to Former Lieut.
Hugh Collins, is so full of ter
rible cuss-words, the pet is now
quartered in the county jail, by
special arrangement with Tony
Solger, the county jailer. The
bird has the run of the jail cor
ridors, and eats whatever is put
before him.
Collins, who served three
years in the Pacific theater,
brought 'Snafu' home with him
a couple of months ago, and for
awhile he was at the home of
his father. Councilman James C.
Collins. Its profanity was too
much for the Collins family,
and the neighborhood, so it was
sent to a Portland pet shop. It
was a problem parrot there also,
and snipped back here by ex
press by its master, and placed
in the county jail.
Councilman Collins reports
the parrot is full of tricks, and
affectionate. In the midst of
performing a trick, a stream of
nrofanity is apt to be emitted.
When mad. he will bite a finger,
with a razor like beak, if oppor
tunity offers. In ordinary talk,
the parrot uses army terms and
slang.
Lieut. Collins, an attorney
now practicing here, picked the
carrot up on Biak Island in the
Dutch East Indies, and adopted it
as a pet. It went with him to
various army camps, where it
acquired its proficiency in cuss
ing, and was a great favorite.
The bird is close to three years
i old, and snow-white with a yel
low topknot.
Jailer Solger reports the bird
is well-behaved, except for
swearing, and has made friends
with the Inmates.

Marion Benda, one of the most
glamorous girls of the golden
Ziegfeld era, tried to die to
night, but only resurrected a
past she hoped to bury forever
with 16 sleeping pills.
The voluptuous show girl was
Rudolph Valentino's last date
before he died, intimates of the
"Sheik" said, but he never mar
ried her.
Three other men did, though
a newspaperman who loved
her, a baron who gave her
$200,000, and a handsome young
hockey player who became one
of Santa Monica's leading phy
sicians. Her cousin, Perry Combs,
who found her unconscious in
the tiny Santa Monica beach
home where she gulped the
j sleeping tablets, said she had
been married to the sleek-haired
film lover in France but had
i kept the secret for 20 years.
Combs said the chorine,
whose real name was Marion
i Wilson, also bore him a little
girl in 1926 a fact that was
denied by everybody else, in
cluding all Valentino's Intimates
and the physician.
"There were 35 women who

"The Jackson County Public

that's the message carried to
citizens of this locality as work
ers in the Mobile X-ray unit
campaign started their canvas
sing of the city to see how many
people want chest X-rays.
Recognized for many years as
the principal weapon in the de
tection of tuberculosis, the X-ray
now becomes a weapon, avail
able to all citizens, in this fight
to eradicate the disease, Mrs.
Dwight' Findley, county chair
man, pointed out. When the
modern X-ray on wheels rolls
into Jackson county from Grants
Pass, the Public Health associa
tion members, who are sponsor
ing the drive with Christmas
seal sale funds, hope that every
working man will take advan
tage of this opportunity to learn
whether or not he has a healthy
chest. Recent figures from the
state board of health reveal
clearly that men in the indus
trial age group are the ones who
have had tuberculosis without
knowing it. The X-ray detects
the disease in its early and most
easily curable stages.
