Freezing Experiments Used
On War Captives By Nazis
Nuernberg, Nov. 7 CU.PJ
Hermann Goering was named
today as the mastermind behind
a medical experiment in which
nkzl doctors froze human guinea
pigs and then tried to revive
them by such media as scalding
water and "nestling" with nude
women.
The experiments, allied In
vestigators revealed, were or
dered by Goering, as head of the
luftwaffe, in an attempt to dis
cover better techniques for
treating German fliers downed
in the frigid waters of northern
Europe.
Old Theory False
Ironically, the human freez
ing tests uncovered the falsity of
the widely-accepted cold applica
tion treatment for such cases.
The experiments, which result
ed in death for countless victims
drafted from nazi concentration
camps, proved that rapid immer
sion in hot water is by far the
best method of saving those
suffering from exposure.

LATEST NEWS
matic torture and murder that
led eventually to that discovery
was revealed by Maj. Leo
Alexander, formerly of Duke
university, after an exhaustive
Investigation of the experiments
carried out for almost three
years at the Dachau concentra
tion camp.
His report was added to the
massive files of evidence against
Goering and his fellow nazi
overlords now awaiting trial in
the Nuernberg prison.
The report disclosed for the
first time how and why Dachau
doctors placed the stiffly-frozen
bodies of men In bed with naked
girls and watched their reactions
if the viotims lived.
The purpose allegedly was to
prove the relative ineffective
ness of bodily warmth and sex
ual excitement as a resuscitation
method. Actually, however, wit
nesses contended that the experi
ments were more or less an
obsession of a Dr. Rascher, who
continued them long after they
had proven a failure.
