Sommer Leaves Sgt Earl
Sommer, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.
L. Sommer of Route 2, Ashland,
.recently home on a 30-day fur
lough, has left for the Santa Bar
bara redistribution center where
he will receive his discharge
from the service. This was the
first time Sommer had been
home since he enlisted in the
marine corps 32 months ago. He
served with the mechanical en
gineers of the marine bombing
squadron of the First Division.
Sgt Sommer received six bronze
battle stars for service in the
Philippine theater.

Young, former pilot and captain
in the marine corps, arrived in
Medford yesterday after having
received an honorable discharge
from the service at El Centro,
Calif. He was accompanied by
Mrs. Young and the two are visit
ing the young man's Barents. Mr.

parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Nord-

former captain entered the serv
ice in the fall of 1941 and served

mated at $400 was caused an
auto operated by Richard
Straus, 324 South Grape street,
and some damage was done a
car driven by Virgil Bradley,
734 Dakota street, when they
collided Monday morning on
highway 99 near the Alley Mill
road, according to accident re
ports filed with city police. Oth
er reports stated that minor
damage was caused cars operat

route 2, in a collision yesterday
at the intersection of Laurel and
