tle, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. M.

has begun a chemical engineer
ing course at the University of
California at Berkeley, accord
ing to word received by his par
ents. Tuttle received an honor
able discharge recently from the
army air corps.
Commissioned Robert
Holmes, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Cole Holmes, 16 Ross Court, was
commissioned an ensign in the
navy at Notre Dame college at
South Bend, Ind., this morning
and is expected to arrive here by
plane tomorrow night for a visit
at home. His next assignment is
to St. Simons, Ga., for tactical
radar training and he reports
there Dec. 3.
Clyde Fichtner Home Clyde
Fichtner, former specialist first
class, returned to Medford Tues
day following an honorable dis
charge from the service after
three years with the navy. Mr.
and Mrs. Fichtner and children
are residing at the home of his
father, Carl Fichtner, 613 South
Holly - street, and the former
navy man has returned to the
position as city traffic officer
with the local police force which
he held before the war.

Dorothy Home Donald O.
Dorothy arrived in Medford a
few days ago from Ft. Patrick
Henry, Va., and is visiting his
sisters, Mrs. Clay Roberts, route
2; Mrs. Arthur Davies of Jack
sonville and Miss Carmen Doro
thy of Salem, Ore. Dorothy is the
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. O.
C. Dorothy of Jacksonville. The
young man, who recently receiv
ed his discharge from the army,
holds the bronze star medal. He
served two and one-half years
overseas with the 332nd engi
neer's corps.

Long Home Jesse C. (Jack)
Long returned to Medford Tues
day from Camp Pendleton,
Oceanside, Calif., where he re
ceived an honorable discharge
from the marine corps reserve.
A technical sergeant at the time
of his discharge. Long enlisted
in March of 1941 and served

fourth marine division which
fought on the Marshall Islands,
Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima.
The former marine is now with
his wife at their home, 429 South
Front street. He is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. B. D. Long, 57 Quince
street.
Janes Here Harrison Janes,
Camp Cook, Calif., Is spending
a 45-day leave In the city at the
home of his mother, Mrs. H. B.
Janes, 1827 Capitol avenue. Cpl.
Janes returned to the United
States in August from the Eur
opean theater where he spent
six months with the 20th ar
mored division of the 7th army.
He graduated from Medford
high school with the class of
1942.
. Knox Discharged Following
three years' service with the air
force, Galen R. Knox returned
home Saturday after being hon
orably discharged from the army
at Ft. Lewis, Wash. As a staff
sergeant Knox served with the
447 bomb group of the 8th air
force in the European theater
and was awarded the bronze
star, . silver star and the presi
dential unit citation. Mr. and
Mrs. Knox reside at 228 East
Main street.
Grand Master Of
IOOF Lodge Pays
Visit in Medford
Ralph Russell, grand master
of the IOOF lodge, and George
Dimmick, grand conductor, paid
an official visit to Medford lodge
No. 83 Tuesday night. F. E.
Royse, past grand master of Con
necticut, also was a visitor.
The meeting was preceded by
a full course baked ham dinner
after which the initiatory degree
was conferred. Eleven veterans'
jewels were presented to mem
bers of the lodge by Grimd
Master Russell and Past Grand
Master Royse.
Visitors from Ashland, Jack
sonville, Central Point and Gold
Hill were present for the meet
ing. It was announced there
will be a class initiated at the
next meeting.

Dederer of the Seattle Fur Ex
change will be one of the main
speakers. Charles Garfield and
Dr. McCauley, both of Seattle,
also will be present. Colored
motion pictures also will be
shown.

C STREET EXTENSION
IS VOTED IN ASHLAND
Ashland, Nov. 2 Ashland city
council voted unanimously In
favor of the C street extension
project to intersect with the
Plaza area in a special session
held Wednesday morning.
City Attorney William Briggs
and City Superintendent Elmer
Biegel were to have presented
the project to the State Highway
commission in Salem yesterlay
and to urge the commission to
take immediate action to include
the C street extension protect
along with development of the
Plaza area.
