broke a 6-6 deadlock and gave
the University of California
Bears a 18-6 victory over Nevada
in a ruggedly-played grid en
counter before 25,000 fans in
Memorial stadium this afternoon.
Deadlocked six nil after three
quarters of play, the Bears took
quick advantage of two fumbles
midway in the final period to
keep the Wolfpnck backed
against their own goal line and
clinch the game.

last night to chalk up Medford's

the ball down to the Medford

Greene Gets Fumble
Grants Pa.'s took the opening
kiokoff and fumbled on the sec
ond play. Nick Gieene recover
ing for Medford on the Cave
man 28 yard stripe. Bob Wat
?on, in three plays, crashed into
the end zone and the rout was
hi. Grants Pass kicked on
fourth down after running

yard line to the 23. Glenn
Bostwick, Jerry Ciark and Wat
son alternated to move the oval

the Caveman JO in four plays.
Jerry Ross then tossed a pass to
Bostwick wnich was good for a
touchdown. Watson's conversion
was good and Medford led 13-0
as the lirst quartet, ended.

nice blocking paved the way for

Riggs Injured

through the entire Caveman
club for another touchdown. The
conversion again was good.

Medford intercepted a Grants
Pass aerial after the Cavemen
tried a couple of plays and mov
ed to the 11 yard line on lour

Caveman puss attempt as the
quarter endd with Medford out
in front 54-0.
On the second play of the last
quarter Steile shot a beautiful
pass to LcRoy House who went
down (o th 10 yard line and
lateraled to Bill Singlcr. Singler
was .tackled on the six and
Steile went over on the next
play. The conversion was again
good.
Grants P.-'SS kicked on third
down and another pass from
Steile to House gathered up 18
yards and Carr picked up 44
mora oi a left end run. Singler
found a hole between guard and
tackle and made another touch
down, the conversion attempt
failing.
House Sets One Up
Medford's last iouchdown of
the game was set up by a beau
tiful 56 yard pass from Steile
to House with Stel.e scoring on
the next piny on a quarterback
sneak.
Lloyd Timmons intercepted a
Caveman pass on nis own 33 to
put Medford in potscsslon of the
ball as the game ended.

was Navy day all over the land
today but the fleet's premier
football team didn't seem to rea
lize it until the last 24 seconds
of its thrill-packed game at Penn
sylvania when a touchdown pass
gave the Midshipmen a 14 to 7
victory.
That finish in the top football
game of the day packed all the
drama usually found in weeks
of gridiron play. It came when
Tony Minisi, a Pennsylvania star
on the 1944 season, turned on
his former mates by catching a
touchdown pass from Horn
schmeyer on a 23-yard play.
The play kept Navy's perfect
record intact, but the Midship
men lost a lot of prestige be
cause Pcnn's highly-keyed young
sters outplayed them most of the
way and kept them scoreless un
til the final period.
There were two startling devel
opments in the midwest whore
Northwestern's Wildcats upset
the Big Ten leaders, Purdue, 26
to 14, and Ohio State rebounded
to spoil Minnesota's perfect rec
ord, 20 to 7.
In another midwestern high
light, Notre Dame's Ramblers
kept their perfect record intact
with a 56 to 0 drubbing of Iowa.
Indiana won a hard intersection
al battle with Tulsa's previously
unbeaten Golden Hurricane, 7 to
0, Michigan downed Illinois, 19
to 0, Great Lakes Naval drubbed
Western Michigan, 39 to 0 and
Michigan State tied Marquette,
13 to 13.
In the east the Army's classy
Cadets rolled to a 48 to 13 vic
tory over Duke. Yale surprised
Cornell, 18 to 7, Dartmouth bat
tled to an 8 to 0 win, its first,
over Syracuse, Temple topped
Pittsburgh, 6 to 0, Holy Cross
won 21 to 0 over Colgate, Har
vard won from Coast Guard
Academy, 25 to 0, Columbia
drubbed Brown, 27 to 6, Buck
nell upset Lafayette, 26 to 2,
Princeton topped Rutgers, 14, to
6, and West Virginia tied Mary
land, 13 to 13.
Alabama led the way In the
Southland with a 28 to 14 win
over Georgia Tech. Tulane
drubbed Southern Methodist, 19
lo 7, Tennessee topped Villanova,
33 to 2 and Arkansas beat Mis
sissippi 19 to 0. Virginia de
feated Virginia Tech, 31 to 13.
Missouri and Oaklahoma re
mained dominant in the Big Six.
Missouri won from Nebraska, 19
to 0, and the Sooncrs defeated

Kansas State, 41 to 13. Kansas
scored a 13 to 0 win over
Wichita.
Rice knocked Texas out of the
Southwest conference lead with
a 7 to 6 upset while Texas A. &
M. rolled to a 19 to 13 victory
over Baylor. Oklahoma A. & M.
was a 25 to 12 winner over
Texas Christian.
In the Rockies, Denver defeat
ed Utah State, 41 to 6, and Utah
was a 28 to 0 winner over Color
ado A. & M.
