activities according to the re

pared recently for the board of

The Y.M.C.A. is one of the
agencies receiving funds from

The subsidiary c'i'b Bnd
groups are a Senior Hi-Y club,
camera club for both boys and
girls, a stamp club, a senior high
school teen-age club and a Junior
high teen-age club, a Tri-Hi-Y
club for girls, Torch club for

group according to the report of
Ben Schmidt, secretary.
Activities Include "fun fests"
with food and games, monthly
dances, ping pong tourneys,
bowling tourneys, hikes, over
night trips, weiner roasts, pic
nics, shuffle board tourneys and
numerous game contests, the re
port states. Schmidt also report
ed that during the past year he
spoke 79 times to public groups,
school assemblies, service clubs,

church groups and other or
ganizations. A number of coun
seling conferences were held,
158 with boys, 43 for girls and
70 with adults, the report states.
The Medford Y.M.C.A. has a
membership of 402 'teen age per
sons and 204 adults, the report
discloses, with a summer mem
bership of 308. Weekly attend
ance at the club rooms is be
tween 800 and 900 boys and
girls, according to the report, 60
to 80 adults and around 30 to 40
visitors.

Omar Contrail, former resi
dent of Southern Oregon and son
of pioneer parents, John and Sar
ah Newlan Contrail, passed away
at Benicla, Calif., last Saturday.
Mr. Cantrall was born March
8, 1885, at old Union Town, lo
cated where the Big Applegatc
and the Little Applegate meet.
During his early days In
Southern Oregon he taught
school throughout the county,
traveling from place to place. He
left Jackson County in 1885 and
moved to Jess Valley Modoc
County, Cal., where he engaged
in the lumbering business. He
retired In 1B30.
Ho leaves to mourn his passing
his wife, Mrs. Arminta Cantrall,
one daughter and two sons, Mrs.
Marvel Holmes of Jewell, Ore.,
Gene Cantrall of A 1 turns, Cal.,
and Forrest Cantrall, Benicla,
Cal., also one sister, Amy Dow,
Jacksonville, and one brother,
Miles Cantrall, Ruch, Ore., sev
en, grandchildren and one great
grandchild, also several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be con
ducted from Perl Funeral Home
Thursday at 2 p. m., with the
Rev. D. E. Millard officiating.
Interment will be In Sterling
cemetery.

speakers for both the general
and the sectional meetings of

ference. The conference, which was

gon College of Education, has
been an annual event for many
years with an attendance of
from five-hundred to a thousand
teachers from the Sjuthern Ore
Ron counties.

ference will be held in the
Physical Education building and
the tactions) meetings will be
held in both tho Physical Edu
cation building and the Admin
istration building.

CORN CROP HARVEST
IS NEAR COMPLETION
Harvesting of the corn crop
of the valley Is about completed
and according to County Agent

touches on the pear picking, ac

Nearly 700 sleeping cars were
assembled at west coast points
during the weekend to accom
modate 20.000 homeward-bound
third fleet veterans, the Pull
man Co. said today.
The company revealed that
the navy veterans were dis
patched from San Diego, San
Francisco, Los Angeles and Seat
tle within three hours after land
ing In this country. Approxim
ately 11.000 were moved out In
one 24-hour period.

they "had been shipped around

Train to Dunsmuir
F. G. Morris, Southern Pacific
Co. agent, announces that, with
the resumption of Pacific Grey
hound line service, the bus-train
schedules between southern Ore
gon and Dunsmuir will continue
to be operated for the time being.
This co-ordinated bus and
train service is in addition to
the recently restored train serv
ice, the Shasta, between southern
Oregon and San Francisco.
