Visiting Parents Mr. and
J. R. Marsh and daughter of
Long Eeach, Calif., arrived in the
city last week to visit at the
home of his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. H. J. Marsh, route 1. Marsh,
a former lieutenant with the nav
al air corps, received a discharge
recently after nearly four years
in the service. He received the
distinguished flying cross for ac
tion over Rabaul harbor during
two years service in the Pacific
theater. For the past year and
one-half Marsh has served as an
instructor at Ft. Lauderdale,
Fla.

shortly before the recent typhoon

NURSERY SCHOOL
The Medford Nursery school
will not close, as was previously
announced, but will open in a
new location Nov. 1, according
to an announcement made this
morning. The school, now oper
ating at 22 Geneva street, will
move to 325 East Jackson street
where a house has been pur
chased.
It was staled that Mrs. Etnel
Tennant will continue as direc
tor of the school and that the
same staff and equipment will
be retained.
For a considerable period the
school has been operated as the
war nursery school with federal
funds supplied under the Lan
ham act and under the supervi
sion of the public school system
of Medford. It was at first an
nounced that funds provided un
der the Lanham act would ter
minate Oct. 31, 1943, but news
released yesterday stated that
the house appropriations com
mittee had recommended con
tinuance of the federal aid for
child care centers until Murch
1, 1948.

Ammonia Seen As
Fuel Possibility
For Large Trucks

Lawrie, science writer for The
Scotsman, has reported that am
monia, familiar as a means of
refrigeration and for ice-making,
has "possibilities" as a fuel for
heavy-duty motor traffic.
Lawrie says that its use as a
fuel for motor busses was first
developed in Belgium, where, in
1943, the first bus was eciuip
pcd. Since that eight buses have
been In operation, covering tens
of thousands of miles with "most
satisfactory results."
Lawrie adds that there are
valuable anti-knock qualities in
ammonia, at least over coal-gas.
He says that coal-gas requires
2.66 times as much air in com
bustion as does ammonia, the
latter having an added ad-'ant-age
of greater expansion when
burned.
"Judging from the high com
pression rations which ammonia
tolerates, it may safely be as
sumed that its comparative oc
tane number is rather higher
than 100."
