Charges that overseas veterans
aboard the transport Hood Vic
tory were ordered to throw their
pet dogs overboard while en
route here were under investiga
tion today by port officials.
.Brig. Gen. James C. Marshall,
port commander, said that if the
officer who gave the order is
discovered he will be punished.
The men are members of the 26th
tank battalion of the lGth ar
mored division.
Soldiers are permitted to bring
home dogs if they are free of
communicable diseases, officials
said.

that all WAC'i in Europe, now
numbering about 5,000, will be
back in the United States before
April.

FEES FROM LAND USE
Oregon will receive $1,029.19
from the federal government for
public roads, schools and other
educational institutions as the
state's share of proceeds from
the leasing of public land in Ore
gon during the 1945 fiscal year,
according to a release from the
department of interior.
The amount Includes benefits
from the development of oil and
gas, coal, potash, sodium and
phosphate resources on land
through federal leases Involving
payment of bonuses, royalties
and rentals to the government.
