Cane Fruits Car
Due At This Tim
Cane fruits should be pruned,
trellised and sprayed with bor
deaux mixture at this time. In
pruning, the old canes that fiuit
ed this year should all be re
moved. The new canes that are
vigorous should be put upon the
wires and the weak canes re
moved. It is best to leave about
eight canes to a hill.
The new canes that are trellis
ed should be cut back to eight
or ten feet but this cutting back
should be delayed until spring.
If cut back this fall, a severe
winter may cause dying back
from the cut.
After being put on the trellis,
the canes should be sprayed
thoroughly with bordeaux mix
ture. Use 1 pound of commercial
one package bordeaux in five
gallons of water.

F. D. Beck arrived In Med
ford this week from Vancouver,
Wash., to take over the duties
of assistant manager of the local
Montgomery Ward store, accord
ing to Paul Timm, store mana
ger. Beck has been employed by
Wards for the past five years,
starting in Bellingham, Wash.
Mrs. Beck was surprised to
find the housing situation more
acute in Medford than it is in
Vancouver.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Clark and
child left last week for Rose
burg, where Clark will be assist
ant manager of the Montgomery
Ward store. Clark has been em
ployed as department head in
the Medford store for several
years.
Park Visitors 'Are
Warned of Disease
Due to the fact that two cases
of relapsing fever have been
reported from Sequoia-Kings
Canyon National Park, visitors
to national parks are specially
warned against feeding, petting
or any close contact with small
rodents, especially chipmunks
or golden-mantled ground squir
rels, a dispatch from the Na
tional Park Service states.
The release states that the
fever is contratced by flea bites
from fleas which pass from the
bodies of the small rodents.
