Pasadena Pianist
Presents Concert
F or Local Society
(By Mrs E. E. Gore)
One of the most outstanding
piano recitals to be given in
Medfo'd in quite some time was
that of Hanow Mills, Pasadena
pianist Monday evening at the
Purui'ker Piano House, under
the auspices of the Medford
Musical society Having played
for this group on two previous
occasions, the concert was like
a reunion of old f rienui and a
spirit of anticipation and a feel
ing of enthusiasm for the young
artist prevailed which will long
be remembered.
The program exemplified .the
classic and romantic schools of
music with a popular Sonata,
Op. 81, by Beethoven, and a
varied group of Chopin which
were followed by two of Mr.
Mills own delightful composi
tions. A match by Prokofieff, a
prelude by the modern Russian
master of composition, Shosta
kowich. and a charming concert
piece, "The Juggler" by Toch,
followed The closing group
consisted of three brilliant con
cert numbers by Branz Liszt.
Mr Mills musical interpreta
tion is eminently artistic and
very satisfying while his lovely
tone and facile technic enable
him to adequately express the
beaut v inherent in each number.
Encores were "Etuoe in D-flat",
Chopin; "On Wings of Song".
Mendelssohn, ."Oriental Etude",
Poldini; "Du Bist de Ruh",
Schubert Liszt.
The president of the Musical
Society, Mrs O. L. Williams, as
sisted by her daughter. Miss
June Williams, Mrs. Richard
Payne Mrs Darrei Huson, Mrs.
Herman Purucker and Mrs.
John Carter greeted the guests

To shape plans for the fall and

state support for public schools,
equalization of school taxation
and a study of a unified state

support will be given to the
county manager system and to
a state merit system.
Among other projects, the na
tional league is endeavoring at
this time to arouse interest in
the national and International
food situation. National officers
point out that furnishing of food
supplies to other countries reed
not be on a relief basis, since
some have the funds to pay for
food.
