been awarded the bronze star
for meritorious achievement In
connexion with military opera
tions ngninst the enemy on
Levte and Snmar Islands from
Oct. 20, 1044, to Feb. 10, 1045,
and on Okinawa from April 1
to 22. 1943, according to Infor
mation received from Head
quarters, flflth Infantry Division,
Sim Francisco.
Th citation reads, In part:
"Sgt. Krause as a sixty milli
meter morlnr squad leader,
through two gruelling cam
paigns was outstanding in the
performance of all duties. On
Okinawa, he voluntarily led
carrying parties which evacuat
ed wounded and supplied
rations, water and ammunition
lo his unit over an extremely
hazardous route.
"On April 2fl. on Sawtooth
Ridge, he maintained his dan
gerous position at an exposed
observation post, despite the
fart that the man next to him
had been killed and he, himself,
wounded. By skillful adjust
ment of fire, he destroyed a Jap
anese machine gun crew which
was holding up the advance of
his company. Sgt. Krause's do
