DISTRESS
One important form of distress
arises from an accumulation of
gas. This gas is usually in, or
stays in, one place in the colon.
This distress arises as a result of
gas distension. This distension
produces pain by pressure upon
delicate nerve endings. The con
tents of the colon are normally
moved along easily from seg
ment to segment. This 'movement
is easily and without pain or
discomfort. It is also normally
co-ordinated into propulsive
waves. When a lack of co-ordination
between the segments ex
ists, tension results, gas or gas
pockets form, and discomfort is
produced. Poison, either produc
ed within the system or taken
into the system, may be a cause
of this lack of co-ordinated pro
pulsive waves. Nicotine because
of ita injury to the delicate ner
vous mechanism of the intestines
is considered a leading cause.
Another cause is the lack of bal
ance between the spinal sympa
thetic and the parasympathetic
nerves. Correct this inco-ordina-tion
and your health will neces
sarily improve.
