OLD USS OREGON
E
Washington. Sept. 22 (U.R)
Secretary of the Navy James V.
Forrestal has ruled, somewhat
regretfully, that the USS Oregon
proud veteran of three wars
must remain at her last battle
station, the Pacific Island of
Guam. '
The battleship first saw serv-
ice in the Spanish-American war.
Then she fought long and hard in
the First World War. I
Now Sen. Guy Cordon, R !
Ore., has received a letter from
Forrestal, explaining why the
Oregon can't come home.
He said: I hope you and the
other citizens of Oregon will ac
cept the fact that the USS Ore
gon as that famous ship was
known no longer exists, having
been worn out by her honorable
service in three wars."
