Advanced Stanley E. Rob
bins, 21, Gold Hill, has been ad
vanced to the rating of radio
man, second class, according to
a dispatch from the navy. He is
a member of the crew of the
escort carrier, USS Savo Island.
In the navy since May of 1943,
Robbins saw nearly every major
assault action from the Palaus
to Okinawa, including three
initial landings in the Philip
pines and the historic battle for
Leyte Gulf, the dispatch states.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald G. Robbins, Gold Hill.

In Hospital Twyla Newbry,
daughter of Mrs. J. C. Wilson, is
now recovering from an ear
operation performed recently at
Green s Eye Hospital in San
Francisco. Miss Newbry's sis
ters, Nellie Snider and Goldie
Hubbard, were in the bay city
to be with her. Miss Newbry's
address is- Green's Eye Hospital,
Room 229, Bush at Octavia
streets.
Recovering Louis Kobcl,
trainman for Southern Pacific
railway out of Roseburg, was re
ported in good condition at Sac
red Heart hospital today follow
ing injuries 'sustained yesterday
afternoon in a fall near the Med
ford corporation freight yards.
Kobel reportedly suffered face
lacerations and bruises on the
back and arm when he fell be
tween two freight cars as they
were being detached. He was
walking along the top of the
train. He was rushed to the
hospital by Conger-Morris am
bulance.

Officer Home First Lt. John
Davidson arrived home last
night from Ft. Lewis, Wash., fol
lowing his recent arrival in the
States with the 45th division.
The officer is visiting his wife
at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. R. R. Childs. route 1,
and will report to Camp Bowie,
Tex., upon expiration of a 30
day leave. Lt. Davidson has
served with the 45th division in
Germany since December, 1944.
Acheson Here Russell Ache
son, former junior high school
coach and basketball coach at
senior high school, has been dis
charged from the army air corps
and with Mrs. Acheson and their
small son is visiting at the home
of Mrs. Acheson's parents, Mr.
and Mrs. F. A. Daugherty, Kings'
highway. Acheson was in the
army for about three years, serv
ing as a flight instructor for two
years and later having been
transferred to the Army Trans
port service. He states that he
will not return to coaching but
will engage in the farm equip
ment business at' Wenatchee,
Wash. The Achesons, who caine
to Medford from St. Joseph, Mo.,
will visit in Portland before go
ing on to Wenatchee.

At Portland Show

cocker spaniel bred and owned
by Mr. end Mrs. Roy Swan of
Eagle Point, was judged best
cocker in the dog show held at
Portland, Sept. 16 and 16.
Shown for the first time. Skip
per not only won five points to
ward his championship title but
also placed second in the soort
ing group, where he competed
with pointers, setters, springer
spaniels and other sporting vari
ties. Swan-ee Sue, Skipper's half
sister, also bred by Mr. and Mrs.
Swan, and now owned by Mrs.
Charles R. Greene, 611 South
Riverside avenue, attained Her
championship rating at the same
show, having won the required
15 points at licensed American
Kennel club shows. Ginger, red
cocker female owned by Mrs.
Greene, was reserve winner in
the show.
The dogs were taken to Port
land by Swan and Greene,

RIGID TRAFFIC CHECKUP
Ashland, Sept. 18 City
Police Chief C. P. Talent today
reported "good business" after
the announcement last week that
the police department would
crack down on traffic violations.
Talent said strict enforcement
of violations, such as overtime
parking, double parking without
a competent and licensed driver
in the car and parking on Main
street between 2 and 6 a. m.,
among other violations, will be
carried out.
