PILUSO SEEKING
GO WITH JONES
Ernie Plluso. the Portland
headlock specialist, who lost to
colored Rufus Jones in the main
event of last Thursday night's
wrestling card at Medford ar
mory, has requested Promoter
Mack Lillard to give him an
other crack at the burly Negro
head-butting artist.
Piluso contended Jones caught
him unaware with head butts
and several illegal swats to his
chin during their bout and said
he would like to square accounts
with him. Lillard yesterday had
not contacted Jones regarding a
rematch but said he would make
an effort to arrange the bout.
Jack Lipscomb, coast cham
pion, will be on next Thursday's
program as will popular Georges
Dusette and Tex Porter, former
Medford boy who has made good
in the tug and haul business.

TIGERS TROUNCE
IN M GAMES
Crippled Detroit Boosts Lead
' In Fight To Two and One
Half Games
Washington, Sept. IS (U.R)
The Detroit Tigers defeated
Washington in both games of a
double header today, 7 to 4 and
7 to 3, to beat back the Senators'
bid for the American League
leadership.
Although three of their stars
are on the crippled list Pitcher
Hal Newhouser, hard-hitting
Hank Greenbcrg and second
baseman Eddie Mayo the Ti
gers, as they have so often this
season, demonstrated again
when the chips were down that
they were of championship tim
ber. The victories increased
the Tigers lead to two and one
half games.
The Tigers took the second
game as Trout registered his
18th victory and his fifth in
eight days.
Alex Carrasquel and Mickey
Haefner were the losing hurlers.
The Senators, playing before
an estimated throng of 33,000
which lammed Griffith Stadium
to capacity, made a contest of
both games, but late inning Ti
ger rallies proved their down
fall. In the first game, the Tigers,
after a four run lead, saw the
Senators come back to tie the
score ut 4-all In the sixth. De
troit rame up with three In the
seventh on singles by Caster and
Mayo, a triple by Cramer and a
double by Cullenbine to win.
Haefner, seeking his 17th vic
tory, had a 2 to 0 lead going In
to sixth Inning and had out
pitched Trout up to that point.
But Rudy York hit a home run
to break his string of no-run
pitching. Cullenbine then walk
ed and Outlaw and Maler singl
ed to load the bases. Richards'
long fly and Trout's single drove
two more runs across.
The Senators tied It In their
half of the alxth when Lewis
beat out a grounder, went to
second on a sacrifice and scored
on Travis' single.
The Tigers broke the tie In
the eighth when Outlaw beat
out n grounder to deep short,
went to third on Maier's single
and scored on a long fly by
Richards.
Washington threatened In the
eighth, but the breaks went
against the Senators. With two
out Lewis walked and Kuhel hit
what appeared to be a single,
but the ball hit Lewis and he
was automatically out.
That break seemed to take
the fight out of the Senators and
they went to pieces in the
ninth when the Tigers scored
three runs to ice the game.
