Funeral services for James
Arthur Cunningham, Orchard
Home Drive, will be held at the
Perl Funeral Home Saturday at
10:30 a. m. Interment will be in
Siskiyou Memorial Park, the
Rev. Harry Hansen officiating.
Mr. Cunningham, who passed
away at a local hospital Septem
ber 12, was born at Murrayville,
III., April 25, J882, being one of
10 children, and preceded In
death by one brother.
In 1808 he moved to Grand
Forks, N. Dak., where he was
connected with the E. J. Lander
real estate firm. He was trans
ferred to the branch office of
that firm In Williston, N. Dak.,
in 1008. On March 22, 1911, he
was married to Lotta Luke at
Medford, Ore. To this union
were born three children, Luke
Alexander Cunningham of Miles
City, Mont.; Lt. Robert James
Cunningham, USNR, Seattle,
Wash., and Joan Cunningham,
Medford.
In 1927 Mr. Cunningham and
associates organized the First
National Dank In Williston, and
he served as president of this
bank until 1943. He also had ex
tensive farming interests in that
vicinity. During his residence in
Williston he was actively engag
ed in civic affairs, working con
tinuously for the promotion and
growth of western North Dakota,
through Improved highways, ir
rigation and commercial airports.
In 1943 he sold his banking
Interests and a large part of his
farming interests and moved to
Medford, where he purchased
the fruit ranch of Mrs. D. W.
Luke. 214 miles southwest of the
city The deceased was a mem
ber of the First Presbyterian
church of Medford and the local
chapter of Kiwanls.

GRANTS PASS SAWMILL
DESTROYED BY BLAZE
Grants 'Pass, Sept. 13 The
Rogue Valley Lumber company
mill, on the old Redwood high
way, near here, was completely
clestioyed "by fire Tuesday eve
ning with loss estimated at be
tween $30,000 and $40,000. The
mill, property of T. J. Dostalik,
was partially covered by insur
ance. Cause of the blaze was un
determined. . Crews from the state forest
patrol, the mill's own fire pump
and another pump which was
rushed In kept the fire from
burning storage heads and near
by lumber.
Dostalik, who has owned the
mill for the past three years,
plans to rebuild.

believed to have originated un
der the kiln floor, completely
destroyed the Raymond Lathrop
hop dryer, on the lower River
Road near here, Tuesday eve
ning. State forest patrolmen call
ed to the scene were unable to
save the building.
Lathrop said approximately
250 bales of dried hops were in
the building at the time and
estimated the loss at about $38,
000. Both the building and crop
were insured.
The Lathrop fire was the third
of its kind within a week with
total damage estimated at $133,-000.

Liberated Australian war pris
oners said today that four Aus
tralian soldiers were beheaded
by a Japanese lieutenant on
Ambon island last; April 26 for
stealing four bags of rice and
nine boxes of tinned fish.
Another Australian was be
headed by a second Japanese
lieutenant, the prisoners said
on their arrival at Morotai. Al
together, they said, 17 prisoners
were executed by various means
during the three and a half
years of Japanese occupation.
