be given medical care before
their return to the United States,
Cmdr. Joel T. Boone, third fleet
surgeon, said today.
Boone, formerly White House
physician during the Harding,
Coolidge and Hoover administra
tions, told correspondents aboard
the San Diego that arrange
ments were being completed to
care for the released prisoners
of war. Already three great
white-painted hospital ships
have Joined fleet units in Sagami
bay and are expected to enter
Tokyo bay soon.
All the prisoners, at least
5,000 of whom need immediate
medical attention, according to

Fred J. Hunt, 58. was in police
custody today after Berkeley,
Calif., authorities said he first
admitted then denied watching
his wife plunge 210 feet to her
death from the Golden Gate
bridge. Hunt is an Oakland,
Calif., public accountant.
Witnesses to the suicide, the
49th in the history of the world's
longest single bridge span, re
ported that a car stopped near
the center of the bridge late yes
terday. A grey-haired middle

climbed over the guard rail and
leaped into the water below.
Motorists stopped and rushed
to a parked car in which, police
said, Hunt was seated. The wit
nesses said he apparently had
been drinking. They quoted
