LIFE AT
APPLEGATE HOME

21, hot herself through the right
temple at the family home, a
ranch house on the Circle G
Fanch in the Little Applcgate
district, about 6:30 o'clock last
night, according to Deputy Cor
oner Carlos Morris, who said
death was instantaneous. The
girl's mother. Mrs. Viola Ruff,
told Morris the girl had been In
ill health all her life and was
confined to a wheelchair.
Morris said the weapon, a 22
calibre automatic rifle, had been
borrowed from C. V. Moody,
neighbor, last spring. The girl's
little brother had found three
old shells and loaded the rifle,
later placing it in the girl's
closet, Morris said he was told.
The family was having their
evening meal on the back porch
and did not hear the shot, they
told the deputy coroner.

A class to train civilian
weather bureau men to operate
rawin equipment was begun
Aug. 10 by the army at the Med
ford weather bureau, R. D.
Church, official in charge of the
local bureau, said today. Lt.
Wilson A. Maxim will instruct
four men from various weathe
bureaus in Oregon on operation
of the rawin equipment, a device
which follows signals from
small radio transmitter carried
loft by a large balloon. Work
ing In fair or foul weather. It
determines the direction and
velocity of winds aloft.
Trainees, who will be station
ed at the Medford bureau when
its duties are expanded with the
departure of army personnel
row operating rawin equipment,
are Lloyd N. DeVol, Medford;
Merle H. Wlttmeyer, Spokane;
Robert 3. Ewers, La Grande,
nd Austin C. Gnlieen, Sexton
Summit. This will increase per
sonnel at the bureau to 13 and
families of the men are being
transferred to Medford also.
