the Methodist church in Ashland
Sunday, Aug. 12, Miss Laura
Billings, youngest daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Homer Billings of
Ashland, became the bride of
Flight Officer Kenneth H. Jones,
Army Air Corps, and son of Mr.
and Mrs. Stanley C. Jones of 512
Pennsylvania avenue, Medford.
Dr. George W. Bruce read the
service at 8 o'clock before a
large group of friends and rela
tives of the two families.
The church was decorated
'with white and pink gladioli and
fern. The bride, given in mar
riage by her father, wore a
heavy white brocaded satin
eown with full length sleeves,
train, and pearl clips at the
square neck, and a finger tip
veil. She carried a white bible
with gardenias and streamers of
stephonotis.
Attendants were Miss Ida Wil
lard, Ashland, maid of honor,
who wore a pink net dress, Miss
Jean Burdett, Medford, and Miss
Alice Wooten, Talent, brides
maids, both In blue dresses. All
carried colonial bouquets. Sgt.
Halph Burgess of Medford was
best man, and ushers were Bob
Littrell and Don Lue, ARMl'c.
Traditional wedding marches
were played by Mrs. Frank Da
vis. Preceding the cere
mony, Miss Isabel Green ind
Miss Pauline Ulstad lighted
tapers In the candelabra, and
Miss Delores Edwin sang "I
Love You Truly," and "Be
cause." For her daughter's wed
dins. Mrs. Billings wore a tor-
quoise blue dress, and Mrs.
Jones wore a flowered blue
gown, both with matching cor
sages. Mr. and Mrs. Jones received
congratulations of guests infor
mally as they left the church,
followed by a reception for rela
tives and close friends at the
home of the bride's parents. The
wedding cake was first cut by
the bride and groom, and Miss
Joan Nell continued the cutting.
Mrs. Stanley C. Jones, Jr., and
Mrs. John Billings poured, and
Mrs'. Weldon Heard and Mrs.
Wlnfleld Roberson assisted. Miss
Wilma Froman played during
the reception.
As a traveling costume, the
bride chose a fuchsia colored
ault with black accessories. Af

Jones will leave for Byersburg,
Tenn., where the groom la sta
tioned. Mrs. Jones was graau
ated from Ashland high school
with the class of 1944, and at
tended Southern Oregon College
of Education. Mr. Jones was
graduated from Medford high

with pink and white flowers
and refreshments were aerved
later In the evening to a large
group of guests.

Has Picnic, Swim

for employees of Fluhrer's Bak
ery and their families, last Sat
urday evening at Twin Plunges
In Ashland. The affair was
arranged by Ray Harrison, and
lasted from 8:30 to 10:30 p. m.
Following the picnic dinner
and swimming party, the group
danced and played games. Orin
Wlckllne was master of cere
monies, In charge of the lunch
counter. Orvtl Bcnkosky trav
eled the greatest distance to
attend the picnic.

Meets at Park
The Degree of Honor Junior
club met Saturday, Aug. 11, at
the Boy Scout park, with Doris

last week, and also entertained
her attendants at a "Spinsters'
Dinner." The bride-elect is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thom
as Young of Phoenix-Jacksonville
highway, and Mr. Rogers'
parents are Mr. nd Mrs. Frank
H. Rogers, Sr., GeBauer apart
ments. The Rev Francis Ball,
rector of the Episcopal church in
Grants Pass, will read the ser
vice at 8:30 o'clock.
The first shower was given by
Mrs. Edna ' DePrez and Miss
Claire Thomas at the Thomas
home. On Wednesday of last
week a group of girl friends of
Miss Young combined a shower
with a picnic and swimming
party at the Ashland pork, and
the following day Miss Ruth An
drews and her mother, Mrs. T.
L. Andrews, entertained at thfc

avenue.
Miss Young was hostess at a
"Spinsters' Dinner" Sunday
evening at Rupp's In Central
Point, when she entertained five
close girl friends who will take
part In the wedding ceremony.

phrey. Miss Young was graduated
from Medford high school with
the class of 1944, and attended
Principia college, Elsah, 111., lest
year. Her fiance returned t6
Medford this spring, after being
placed on the inactive list of the
army air corps following ser
vice In England as a pilot and
first lieutenant. Graduated from
Medford high school In 1941, he
was with United Airlines at San
Francisco before entering the
service in October of 1942, and
is now employed at the United
Airlines station at the Mediord
airport.

at the double ring service, and
the couple was attended by Mr.
and Mrs. Tom Fenton, formerly
of Medford and now of Bremer
ton. Flowers for the ceremony
were sent by telegraph by
friends of the Trulllnger family
In Minnesota, where they lived
before coming to Oregon 10
years ago, and music was played
by the chapel organist.
Mr. and Mrs. Trulllnger are
now living In San Francisco,
while the navy man Is, tempor
arily atationed at Treasure Is
land. Before entering, the ser
vice, he was employed in Med
ford by the Bigelow News agen
cy, Western Union, Medford
hotel and Rlalto theatre.
SCU Woman's Club Holds
Luncheon at Camp Whita
The women's club of the SCU
at Camp White had a 1 o'clock
luncheon Thursday at the SCU
officers' club at the post, fol
lowed by an afternoon of bridge.
Mrs. John R. Young, wife of Col.
Young, the commanding officer
at Camp While, received mem
bers and guests, and Mrs. Virgil
M. Lancaster was In charge of
the program.

Wed in Med ford
In a setting of white gladioli
and asters, Miss Jeanne Vlllair,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J.
Villalr of Cave Junction, became
the bride of Robert G, Davis, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Davis, 830
Bessie street, Suday afternoon,
Aug. 12. The service was per
formed at the Presbyterian
church in Medford by the Rev.
Harry W. Hansen.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a white taf
fetH gown with taffeta-edged veil
held in place by gardenias. She
carried a shower bouquet of gar
denias and stephonotis. Miss
Amy Pruden of San Diego, a
sorority sister, was maid of hon
or. She wore a blue marqulset'e
gown and carried a colonial bou
quet of pink and white flowers.
Linda and Sandra Davis, small
daughters of Mr. 'and Mrs.
Claude Davis of Medford, were
flower girls, and also carried
colonial nosegays.
The groom's best man was
Stephen Dippel of Medford, and
Sgt. Ray Casebeer and Sgt.
Ralph Burgess, both of Medford,
served as ushers,

the service, "The Lord s
Prayer."
A reception in the church par
lors followed the wedding. Mrs.
Ralph Dippel, Mrs. Ben Stafford
and Mrs. D. L. Flynn served, as
sisted by Miss Anne Scripter and
Miss Betty Rose, sorority sisters
of the bride.
The bride's going away suit
was of yellow wool with black
accessories. After two weeks at
the Oregon beaches, the couple
will be at home in Eugene,
where the groom will continue
college work at the University
of Oregon. A graduate of Med
ford high school with the class
of 1943, he will begin his third
year at the University this fall,
and will enter the law school.
Mrs. Davis also completed her
second year at the University in
June, and is a member of Alpha
Delta PI social sorority. Mr.
Davis Is a member of Skull and
Dagger, service honorary for
sophomore men, and Friars, jun
ior men's honorary group. Both
have been active in campus ac
tivities. Visitors Here At
Janes Residence
The home Of Mrs. Harris Buck
ley Janes, 1827 Capitol hill, is
the scene of a reunion this week
with the two sons of Mrs. Janes
and the late Mr. Janes both vis
iting in the valley, on leaves
from the service.
First Lt. William Dolph Janes,
accompanied by his wife and
daughter, arrived in the city
Wednesday evening on a 30 day
leave from McCaw General hos
pital, Walla Walla, Wash.
Cpl Harris Buckley Janes and
his fiancee, Miss Barbara Reed
Swartz, of Hanover, Ind., also
arrived Wednesday to spend a
few weeks with Mrs. Janes. The
corporal attended Harvard Uni
versity, and was stationed at In
diana University, BloominRton,
Ind., with the army specialized
training program, before going
overseas with the army. He has
just returned after service in
Gernviny, and the engagement of
Cpl. Janes and Miss Swartz,
dnughter of the Rev. and Mrs.
Charlos Benjamlne Swartz of
Hanover Ind., was announced at
her home last week. No date has
been set for the wedding. Miss
Swartz completed her freshman
year at Mount Holyoke college,
South Hadley, Mass., this spring.
Nile Sawing Club Meeting
For Luncheon and Sewing
The Nile Sewing club will
meet for a 12 o'clock covered
dish luncheon Thursday at the
home of Mrs. Margaret Fabrick,
10H Crater Lake avenue. The
afternoon will be spent sewing
for the Shrine crippled chil
dren's hospital In Portland, and
all Daughters of the Nile are In
vited to attend.

terian church in Medford Sunday, July 8, in an afternoon
ceremony performed by the Rev. Harry W. Hansen. The former
Miss Paula Blanton, Mrs. Casebeer is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Blanton of Springfield. Ore., and the sergeant is the
ion of Mrs. Effie Casebeer of Central Point. Returned to this
country after his release from a German prison camp, he will
report soon for reassignment in the army.
D'Albinis Announce
Daughter's Troth
To Captain Briggs
Mr. and Mrs. G. Q. D'Alblni,
45 Quince street, announce the
engagement of their daughter.
First Lt. Corinne D'Albinl of the
army nurse corps, to Capt. Wil
liam Craven Briggs, son of Mr.
and Mrs. David Briggs of Lex
ington, N. C. No date has been
set for the wedding, as both are
overseas with the armed forces.
' Lt. D'Alblni is a graduate of
Medford high school, and at
tended college at St. Helen's
hall before taking nurses' train
ing at Good Samaritan Hospital
in Portland, Ore. She is now
stationed in the Bavarian Alps,
and has been in Europe with the
104th Evacuation Hospital unit
since they left this country over
a year ago on completion of
training at Camp White. Both
the lieutenant and Capt. Briacs
served with Gen. Patton's third
army in the final stages of the
war against Germany. Capt.
Briggs is now in Oslo. Norway,
with an engineer group.
Royal Neighbors
Guests at Dinner
Fifty members and guests of
the Royal Neighbors of America
lodge were entertained at a cov
ered dish dinner Thursday eve
ning at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Miller, Orchard Home
drive. Dinner was served at 7
o'clock, on tables placed under
the trees In the yard, and the
evening was spent in visiting.
The hostess was assisted by
the Mesdames Ruby Mallory,
Mabel Lynch and Irene Shirley,
and Miss Blanch Arnold.
Next meeting of the group, to
be held the first Thursday in
September at 8 p. i. in the K
of P hall, will feature initiation.

Laurel street, to Verlyn Thomas,
AOMT 3c, U. S. navy, and son
of Mr and Mrs. Leo Thomas of
Phoenix, is being announced in
formally this week. No date has
been set for the wedding.
Miss Austin was graduated
from St. Mary's Academy this
spring and is employed in the
Fluhrer Bakery retail store in
Medford Her fiance, an aviation
ordnance man, technician and
turret gunner, entered the navy
June 13, 1944, after being grad
uated from Medford senior high
school with the class of '44. He
received training at Farragut,
Ida , and Norman, Okla., and
was in the valley on leave in
June of this year, before report
ing to San Diego wl; -re he is
now stationed.
Stuarts Honored
At No-Host Party
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Stuart,
who plan to leave Medford In
about a week to make their
home in Berkeley, Calif., were
hoonred at a no-host party given
by a group of friends last Satur
day evening at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. C. Rease Braley, 245
Valley View drive. The Stuarts
have sold their home here at 18
Modoc road, and have purchased
a residence in Berkeley.
The affair was a picnic dinner
served in the yard, followed by
informal visiting.

Red Cross Work Wednesday
Daughters of the Nile are ask
ed to meet at the Jackson coun
ty courthouse auditorium Wed
nesday, Aug. 22, from 10 a. m.
to 4 p. m., for Red Cross cutting

At a dessert bridge party held
at their home on the Old Pacific
highway Thursday evening, Mr.
and Mrs. G. W. McBee announc
ed the engagement of their
daughter, Jacquelynn, to Staff
Sgt. Warren Holbrook, son of
Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Holbrook of
119 Crater Lake avenue. ' The
wedding will take place In Sep
tember. Both young people are well
known in the valley. Miss McBee
attended Willamette University,
and is affiliated with Beta Chi
social sorority. She has been em
ployed at the United States Na
tional Bank in Medford for the
past two years. Sgt. Holbrook at
tended the University of Oregon,
and is a member of Sigma Chi
fraternity. He recently returned
to this country after serving
nine months In England, and is
stationed at Sioux Falls army air
base in South Dakota.

valley Friday for a week's visit

bridal shower Friday evening at
the home of Mrs. Irene Shirley,

is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Carl Pearson, 118 Clark street.
The affair was a miscellaneous
kitchen shower, and the hostess
was assisted by Mrs. Edith Beck,
Mrs". Mabel Lynch. Mrs. Ruby
Mallory, and Miss Blanche Arn
old. Refreshments were served,
and guests played cards and oth
er games. Bridge prizes went to
