AUTOS
ARE
Cleveland (U.R) A new post
war automobile is to be revealed
soon that has been designed
along new and startling linos
according to the Gyro Aircraft
Engine Corp., a free-lance auto
motive development outfit here.
Following War Production
Chief J. A. Krug's go-ahead sig
nal to the automotive industry,
Gyro officials are said to be ne
gotiating with one of the Detroit
automobile companies for the
adoption and production of this
new car. However, the name of
the Detroft manufacturer could
not be disclosed at this time.
Gyro have had veteran en
gineers and designers at work
on this new "Automobile of To
morrow" for more than two
years.
Clifford S. Goby, general man
ager for Gyro, said the car is
distinctly new in every sense
and is not a revamp of some pre
war model. Some of the major
features are the complete remov
al of the customary long engine
hood out in front, the placing of
the driver s seat forward, a curv
ed postless windshield.
All four wheels are sprung In
dependently of each other. The
seats are independent and can be
swiveled like an armchair. There
is plenty of room between the
front and rear seats, even though
the total , car's length has been
kept comparatively short for
easy maneuverability, in traffic.
"You might even get up a little
card game If you wanted to,
Goby said.
The baggage compartment Is
made easily accessible through a
door in the side of the car. The
motor is located at the rear and
drives the axles by a new drive
shaft arrangement.
PHOTO OF JAPANESE
ANGERS POLICE DOG
Fort Lewis, Wash. (U.R)
"Lady," German police mascot
of a Fort Lewis engineer con
struction battalion, wasn t ex
pecting to find a Japanese when
she made a call on the battalion
war information center recently.
"Lady" was no lady, and made
a sudden lunge toward him. An
alert officer stopped the dog be
fore she completely destroyed
the life-sized photo, part of an
exhibit showing differences be
tween Japanese and Chinese.
HEARSE USED TO BILK
AUTHORITIES FOR GAS
Hazen, Ark. U.R A car
thief originated a new and al
most successful method of
overcoming gasoline and tire ra
tioning problems in making a
getaway.
He stole a hearse.
When arrested, he admitted
that his tale of making an emer
gency run not only made it pos
sible for him to secure gasoline,
but also procured a new tire for
the hearse when one of the old
ones blew out.
The total income of all civil
ian residents in San Francisco
during 1944 was more than twice
that in 1939.
