BIG FOREST FUND
According to Rogue Rtver Na
tional Forest officials, the county
will receive approximately $71,
320 as its share of forest service
receipts for the fiscal year 1945.
Only two other counties In Ore
gon received more money from
the forest service, it was said.
This fund is derived from ap
portioning 25 of forest ser
vice receipts obtained by na
tional forests within the county
boundaries. Tbe payment is
made in lieu of taxes that might
be derived from national forest
lands if they were in private
ownership.
The amount that will be re
ceived this year is slightly less
than that received for the fiscal
year 1944, due to a slight de
crease in timber sale cutting. It
appears that because national
forest tiftiber will be cut in a
full amount allowed by tha sus
tained yield policy of the forest
service, Jackson county will re
ceive a substantial payment from
the forest service each year in
the future, the officials state.
Last year only six counties in
the United States received a
greater apportionment of forest
service receipts than Jackson
county, the report shows.
SENTENCE SUSPENDED
ON BURGLARY CHARGE
James Elmer Longacre enter
ed a plea of guilty Thursday to
burglary not in a dwelling, and
sentence was suspended by Cir
cuit Judge H. K. Hanna, pend
ing Longacre's induction into
the army. Longacre has passed
his physical examination and is
awaiting call. The suspension
order provides that Longacre re
frain from drink, behave him
self and report to the district at
torney during the probation pe
riod. He was charged with en
tering the Cullen Motor and Im
plement company on North Riv
