Sunday's game between the
Medford Craters and Central
Point, scheduled as a home game
for the Central Point team, will
be played on the Medford dia
mond to allow seating accommo
dations for spectators, it was an
nounced today by Clifford Proc
tor, president of the Medford
Athletic Association. Arrange
ments between the association
and the Central Point delegation
were completed this morning.
Bitter rlvaltry between the
two teams promises to make this
one of the best games played
here this season. Reports of
heavy betting among the Central
Point following were unconfirnrv
ed today by Bill Askwith, mar
ager of the Pointers, who said it
appeared to be a "Medford ru
mor." Askwith added, however,
that his players are going all-out
for the game beyond that he de
clined further comment.
Manager Paul Freer of the
Craters states that he would
"rather beat Central Point than
any other team In the state of
Oregon.
Locals Win Twice
Two games between the teams
earlier this year have resulted
in wins for the Medfordites, a
pre-season practice game ending
7 to 0, and a league game last
month gave he Freermen a 5 to
4 victory.
Both managers were undecid-'
ed today as to pitchers who will
start the game Sunday. Freer
stated that he may send Barr or
Kidwell to the rubber, while
Askwith's probables were un
announced. Other men In the Crater line
up will be Gitzen catching, Sul
livan, first base,' Stammen sec
ond and Lange third, Kircher
shortstop, Burnham in left field.
Crippen center and Hoffard right
field.
Hill will be behind home plate
for Central Point, Tom Colley
will hold down first base, Tucker
second and Askwith third, Har
gus Colley shortstop, and the out
field will be manned by. Tharp
Mang, Coleman or Harris, the
manager announced.
BEST FISHING IN
UPPER ROGUE AS
The salmon run In lower
Rogue river is now over, and
best fishing is in the upper river
around Bybee-Dodge and Shady
Cove, according to report from
Al Piche, local sportsman.
Around Trail and McLeod, sal
mon are congregated in large
numbers and can be taken on
spinners In sizes 3 and 4 in Bear
Valley hammered brass or sil
ver. Trout fishing in the Rogue Is
very good on small spinners or
single eggs, while flies have not
brought results the past week as
they did earlier, Piche states.
Small streams in the county
are giving anglers good sport, on
eggs and spinners, with best re
sults the past week at Mill
Creek and Upper Umpqua above
Diamond lake. Single eggs or
spinners are the best lure.
Fishing at Fish lake, Squaw
lake, and Prospect lake has been
only fair. Piche says, while Lake
O' Woods, Four Mile lake and
Emigrant lake are good. Hiatt
lake is now at its best on crap
pies, and some bass are being
taken on green colored plugs.
Best results with crappies are
obtained with spinners baited
with worm or small pieces of
white fish meat.
Reports from Diamond lake
are varied, with good catches
still being made on trolling with
plug attached, while others have
had fine catches by bait fishing.
the sportsman adds.
Crater Lake is closed to fish'
ing this year, in regard to the
hiring of boats but good fishing
can be had if anglers can get
down the rim to the shore with
spinner and eggs.

many In February 1943.
