stationed there with a cannon
company of the army Infantry,
who wrote the Homcfront editor.
Sims adds that he "has really en
joyed reading the Tribune dur
ing the two and a half years he
has been overseas."
Letters from Sims have come
from Africa, Sicily, and Italy,
and the latest, from Austria,
states that Austria Is the nicest
European country he has visited.
As for European people, Sims
says the Frencn are the nicest
"good, kind, friendly people."
A souvenier copy of Sims' di
vision paper enclosed In the let
ter includes an article written
by Vie Dallaire, formerly of
Medford and now listed with the
nrmv npwsnaner. Stars and
Stripes. Another article features
the Third Division originally
Pacific Coast outfit, with more
than BOO actual combat days to
Its credit now. Sims adds that
few Oregon, California, and
Washington men are still with
the outfit.
Denver Eateries
May Close Down
Denver, July 25 (U.R)
Denver restaurant patrons faced
the possibility of a week-long
famine today when operators of
the city's major eating places re
vealed that a protest move
against recent OPA red point al
lotment reductions was being
considered.
A meeting of the Colorado
Restaurant Asm., representing
about 100 of Denver's largest
restaurants, will be held Thurs
day where members will vote on
a proposal to shut down their
cafes for a week or more.

Lt. Leland Wilson
Given Air Medal
On A'20 Missions
First Lt. Leland E. Wilson, 27,
son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Wil
son of 616 W. Jackson street,
has been awarded the air medal
tor meritorious achievement
while flying A-20's on low level
bombing and strafing missions
against Japanese ground instal
lations, shipping and personnel,
according to a release from his
headquarters in the Philippine
Islands.
A deputy flight commander
with the Fifth Air Force's famed
417th bomb group "Sky Lan
cers," Lt. Wilson has flown near
ly SO combat missions since he
arrived overseas nearly nine
months ago.
Before he entered the army In
November, 1042, Lt. Wilson was
a welder at the Mare Island navy
yard.

been set at 1 p. m., ao as to give
those who have farther to come

A graduate of Medford high
school with the class of 1943,
Miss Vilas attended the Univer
sity of Oregon one year and is
now under contract with War
ner Brothers film studio in
Hollywood, and is to have a
screen test made within the next
six months. She has been living
in Hollywood, but is now visit
ing her parents in Medford.
The crew of "The Fighting
Lady" asked Life magazine to
aid them in finding a typical
American girl to be chosen by
the crew as the official pin-up of
the ship, the girl to bear the title
of "Miss Fighting Lady."
The contest is now closed and
final j Jdging is being made. Win
ner of the contest will be hon
ored at a ball upon the ship's
arrival In the U. S., if security
reasons permit.
