SAYS G. I.'S
Hollywood. July 25 (U.R)
Mrs. Sidnie Leonard, pretty 32-year-old
wife of a soldier over
seas, "today accused Dr. Wendell
White, 35, Glendale, Calif., phy
sician and ex-sailor, of offering
her love treatments at $10 each.
When Mrs. Leonard turned
him down, Dr. White slapped
her, called her "dirty names"
and kicked her in the stomach,
. she charged at his arraignment
on assault and battery charges.
. The doctor prescribed the
treatments, she said, after she
told him her husband, Sgt. John
E. Leonard of Vincennes, Ind.,
was serving in the Pacific.
Checkup Wanted
Mrs. Leonard told police she
went to the doctor's office for a
physical checkup. He looked her
over briefly, she said, and told
her:
"The only thing wrong with
you is you need a little loving."
He suggested that he start her
"treatments" immediately, she
said.
"Come over here and sit on
my knee," she quoted him. "I'm
just advising you as a physi
cian," she said he added.
When she indignantly refused,
she said, he told her the fee was
$10. When she protested she
hadn't received any medical ad
vice, he raised it to $50.

Replanted Zone
On Wilson River
Is Burned Again
Portland, Ore., July 25 (U.R)
High school boys planted thou
sands of young trees the past two
winters along the Wilson river
highway where the great Tilla
mook burn of 1933 had left only
blackened stumps on the hill.
The trees were to grow up and
screen the burn, part of a long
range reforestation plan of lum
ber operators and the State For
estry Department.
Today the seedlings are charred
and wiped out by another fire.
Only one tree remains, the four-year-old
Port Orford memorial
cedar planted March 4 at a cere
mony on the spot where the
original fire started.
The fire even blackened the
large sign which said: "Here is
where the great Tillamook burn
started August 14, 1933." The
spot was on Gales Creek south
of Glenwood.

Stocks advanced sharply today
but volume continued around
the lowest for more than three
months.
Net gains ranged from one to
three points. The industrial
average gained more than a
point and the rail component
nearly a half point. Rails came
back fractions to more than a
point. Utilities supplied a few
substantial gainers and chemi
cals were strong on advances
running to three points. Build
ing Issues were given a whirl
and numerous specialties had
wide gains.
The recovery, lacking vigor,
was seen as merely technical
and not an indication of a re
sumption on a large scale of the
uptrend.
